"There is a place that I think we can go to find answers."
Irene shot up in her seat at her mother's words. Finally, a light was shining at the end of the very dark tunnel that she somehow found herself in.
"Really? Can we go right now?"
"Calm down, Irene. We still have a lot of things to do around the house,"
Irene's feet started jiggling because of how antsy she was. She couldn't find it in her to remain calm. It had been hell without a mate and not being able to find peace when she closed her eyes at night.
"Come on Mother, we can always fix the house later,"
Her mother looked at her and shook her head. When she saw that Irene was practically sitting at the edge of her seat, nervously anticipating their going to see the seer, she got to her feet.
"Fine, let's get changed and be on our way then."
Before her mother could finish speaking, Irene was off the seat and already halfway to her room to change into clothes suitable for going out. In less than 5 minutes, she was lacing up her boots and waiting for her mother outside the house.
"Aren't you going to have anything to eat?"
Irene shook her head wildly while her mother locked the house up behind them since there was no one else around.
"Let's go."
They began their journey to the abode of the man that was going to have the answers to the numerous questions that Irene had.
****
"Is this the place?"
"Yes, it is."
Irene looked around as her mother knocked on the door. The house didn't look special from the outside. As a matter of fact, it looked like the person who lived inside was a farmer going by the farm behind the house. Irene didn't feel encouraged that the person they were meeting was going to be able to help her, but she didn't say anything.
"Come in. I've been expecting you."
Irene and her mother exchanged glances at the words of the man who met them at the door. She wanted to ask her mother if she informed the man of their arrival but couldn't because of his keen gaze that was pinned on her.
"And you must be Irene," he said.
She nodded and looked around the house as she walked in. While outside was a bit cold, the inside was warmer than she would have thought due to the fireplace where a fire was crackling. She could perceive the aroma of something pleasant but couldn't put a finger on what it was.
"Have a seat."
They obliged the man, and he took a seat across from them.
"Have you come to find out why you don't have a physical mate yet and why you have those dreams?"
Irene looked sharply at her mother. When she told her mum all about her encounters during her sleep, she didn't think that she was going to tell the man all about it. From the way the man was speaking, it was like he knew far more than Irene was comfortable with him knowing because some of the details embarrassed her.
"Do not look at your mother. She hasn't told me anything yet. She hasn't even met me before."
She moved her gaze back to the man who now had a small smile on his face.
"Then how do you know about my problems? How did you know that we were coming here? How do you know my name? How do you know us?"
The man adjusted himself on his seat so that he could reach behind him for a cup that was on the table. Picking up the cup, he brought it to his lips and took a sip of whatever was inside of it.
"Tea?"
He offered them both, but they politely rejected his offer.
"Thank you but we're not here for tea."
"Hmm"
The man hummed before dropping the cup and looking at Irene who was patiently waiting for answers. She was a bit confounded by the way he behaved and spoke.
"You ask a lot of questions, little girl but I'll answer some of them. I am a seer. Does that answer all your questions?"
Instead of replying, Irene looked around.
"You don't live like a seer."
The man let out a laugh before getting serious again.
"I know you were expecting a cave with moss and birds coming to me, but this is how I choose to live. Now, would you continue your questioning, or would you like to know the answers to the questions that you ask?"
Irene was quiet for a while before taking a deep breath.
"I would like answers to the questions that I ask."
"Good."
The seer got to his feet and pulled out a chair beside him which was a different color from the rest.
"Come sit here."
Irene shot a quick questioning glance at her mother who nodded at her. Irene took that as her mother's approval and did as the seer asked. The seer took her hand in his and turned her palm over. After looking intently at her hand, he reclaimed his seat from earlier.
"You may return back to your seat."
"Can you tell us what is happening?"
Irene's mother finally spoke up after a long moment of silence.
"The man that you see in your dreams is your mate."
"What?"
Irene and her mother were visibly confused.
"Yes, he is your mate that was imprisoned thousands of years ago because of the love that he had for you all those years."
"Wait, I don't understand. Do you mean to say that the man that has been coming to me in my dreams, chasing me and trying to molest me is my mate?"
The seer nodded and Irene couldn't believe what she was hearing.
"Please, check again. I'm sure you're wrong."
She got to her feet and tried to go back to the chair, but the seer stopped her.
"I do not make mistakes in my divinations. He is your mate, and he has been for 8 lifetimes now. The reason why he pesters you so much is because he has been unable to find peace."
"What has that got to do with her?"
Her mother asked, intensely worried about her daughter.
"Because she was the one who betrayed him and broke his heart."
"Me?"
Irene's face showed that she was more confused than she had ever been in her life.
"Okay, hold on. What do we do? How do we get him to stop disturbing her so that she can find a mate?"
Her mother asked again which made the seer shake his head.
"Do you not understand what I am telling her? That is her mate. She has no other mate. If she wants to mate, it can only be with him."
Irene fell back in her seat, her hands on her head. If that devilish wolf that disturbed her and gave her sleepless nights was her mate as the seer said, she didn't know what she was going to do with herself. She couldn't find peace when she went to bed because of him and now, she was hearing that she was the reason why he didn't find peace which meant that she was the cause of all the issues. What annoyed her even more was that she had no idea about anything that was being said to her.
"What do I do?"
The seer looked at her and shook his head.
