Chapter three
Downstairs, her husband, Mark, was waiting. He'd been her rock, her constant source of support. When she descended the stairs, his eyes widened, and a slow smile spread across his face. "You look incredible," he said, his voice filled with genuine admiration. She felt a surge of warmth and a flicker of pride. Maybe she could do this.
The drive to the reunion was filled with nervous chatter and Mark's reassurances. As they pulled up to the school, her heart pounded in her chest. She took a deep breath, trying to steady herself. The halls were filled with familiar faces, some of which brought back painful memories. But there were also smiles, warm greetings, and genuine delight at seeing old friends.
Sophia made her way to the auditorium, where the main event was being held. She felt eyes on her, a mixture of curiosity and surprise. She held her head high, refusing to let the old insecurities take hold. She saw her best friend, Emma, across the room and made a beeline for her.
