Chapter 16

"Are you sure you'll be okay?" I don't know how many times Sir Cace asked me that. I insisted that he drop me off at the convenience store where I work. I was certain I wouldn't be able to get into Auntie's house. It was already early morning, and I was sure they wouldn't open the door for me.

"Yes..." I replied, that made Sir Cace's brow furrowed.

I looked away. I couldn't meet his gaze again. Why was he treating me like this? I'm not even that special.

Sir Cace sighed before focusing his eyes back on the road.

In a matter of moments, we arrived at the convenience store. I immediately saw Al and my new coworker. Roy had left because he needed to look after his child and wife.

"Dalha..." Sir Cace softly said as I was about to get out of the car. I hesitated and sat back down.

"Sir?"

It took him a while to respond. He just stared into my eyes. It seemed like he had a lot to say, but something was holding him back from expressing it.

"Nothing..." Sir Cace softly said.
