Chapter 48

I went to school normally as if nothing had happened, but it wasn't entirely normal, and obviously the most notable thing of the day is what's happening here now.

"May I know what you want to talk to me about? I... need to go eat with Shiori." Shiori seemed anxious to talk to me throughout the entire class.

However, I was summoned here by Reine, I have no idea what this zombie-looking weirdo wants with me.

'Seriously... how is she alive taking so many pills?' She just finished an entire bottle of pills, and I examine them, they're all real medicines, it doesn't even make sense that she can handle all of that.

I have no idea how this woman's immune system works, how can she stay up for so long and take so many drugs? She has very serious dark circles and looks very tired.

"...It's nothing... serious," she says in a dragging manner, as if she wouldn't finish speaking, but she still does, honestly she seems like she's on her deathbed.

"..." She observes me with an evaluative gaze, as if she's analyzing my body and looking for something.

"...May I know...why you're okay?" She questions me after completely finishing analyzing me.

"I don't know what you mean, but the way you speak is as if you want me to be dead." I think I understand what she means, but I'd rather keep things this way.

"...Let me rephrase, why don't you seem to care about what happened earlier?" She speaks without any breaks in her speech and with a seriousness that seems almost fake.

"...I don't know, what happened earlier? If you don't tell me, I won't know." What a way to escape the question, but I don't care, she can talk and do whatever she wants, as long as she keeps talking indirectly, I can ignore it.

"You seem very...well...you're not injured..." She says in response to her previous evaluation.

"Yes, I'm completely fine... but you know, I really think I need to leave, I see you have nothing to talk to me about." She's just rambling without wanting to say it right away, if she were more direct, it would be faster.

"As I said, I need to go talk to Shiori." I turn to leave, turning my back to her.

"...You...are a spirit, aren't you?" She stops me in my tracks.

"...Spirit? I don't think I've died yet, and I'm sure I'm not one of the 7 legends of this school." Spirits can very well be "ghosts", but as far as I know, I'm not a ghost.

"Jokes...aren't your forte [Eclipse]." She says with a certain sarcasm while using my title, making it clear that she knows, or at least thinks she knows, but Eclipse can just be a natural event.

"...I've never been compared to the moon that eclipses the sun before." I turn back to her and stare at her directly, I want to see how far this will go.

"Don't play games anymore...why did you kill Yoshino?" She questions with conviction, as if she was absolutely certain that I killed her.

"I don't know what you're referring to, that's a terrible thing, how can you accuse me of murder?" I simply deny it with a false look of surprise, playing the victim as if I felt insulted that she accused me.

"...I'm not recording this..." She says, even though I didn't say anything, her coldness is interesting.

'Smart...' Of course I wasn't going to admit to killing someone when she could just record what I said.

"I still don't know what you're referring to, if this is a joke, know that I'm not having fun with it, ok?" It's not really fun, at most it's interesting, but it's not fun.

"...Why are you acting this way? I thought...you would ask for something." Reine asks with some surprise.

'...' She messed up big time, honestly Reine is... disgusting, I have the urge to kill her, since I tried to evaluate her, I can't feel anything good coming from her, honestly I prefer to keep my distance as much as possible.

I know how to take advantage of the opportunities that life gives, but not every opportunity is really good, sometimes life gives you an opportunity to take more from you in the future.

She's too suspicious for me to want anything to do with her.

If it weren't for the result of trying to evaluate her, I might even try to get something out of her in exchange for giving something and try to come out on top, but obviously with what I felt, I prefer absolute distance.

"...You're so cautious..." Her eyes narrow as if my extra caution with her was a bad thing.

"Can I leave now?" I won't say anything, I won't negotiate and I'll keep lying and pretending I don't know anything, she has no proof at all that I'm a spirit.

"...What is a Fallen Angel?" She changes the question, as if I was going to answer her just because she decided to change her questioning.

"They are angels who fell from heaven for committing a sin, they are evil beings like Lucifer or something like that, their white wings turned black, do you want to know anything else?"

"That's not what I'm referring to..." She sighs.

"What are you trying to do?...why are you after spirits?...why kill them?"

"Oh?"

'She seemed sad?...what a strange thing' That was strange, she seemed sad when she mentioned killing spirits, I could even understand if she was attached to them or had ties with them.

But...she doesn't, she barely spends time with any of them as far as I know, and the time she does spend is more for analysis, she doesn't have any special interaction with them and because she's the analytical type, she's not sentimental.

"Listen 'teacher', I have no idea what you're talking about, I'm not trying to do anything other than live my life, I'm not after any ghosts and I don't want to kill anyone."

"Could you stop this strange conversation?"

"...Why do you exist?" She changes her questioning again.

"...Isn't it normal to exist? If a woman and a man have sex, a child is born from that union, isn't it natural for me to exist the same way as everyone else? I didn't choose to be born."

"You...aren't from here, are you?" Her question makes me think of the past world.

"Maybe...an original? Could you tell me that?" As soon as she says that, I get confused.

'...Original? What is an original? Is she referring to a pure spirit?' If I'm not mistaken, in the theory, all spirits other than the first spirit are humans, they are just humans who have obtained a Sephira.

However, the original spirit is apparently a true spirit, and spirits apparently come from some strange place, but it's not mentioned in the anime and Tohka only says it's a dark place.

"I...don't know what you mean...but I suggest you don't come after me again." It doesn't interest me, the Original spirit doesn't matter, my goal is not to extinguish all life, it's just to end the world.

If this spirit is alive and on earth, it doesn't matter, whether it stays alive or dies, I don't care as long as it doesn't get in my way.

I approach Reine and bow slightly to her, as she is shorter than me.

"Maybe I'm an original, but it's not your concern, don't get in my way." I start to leave.

"Was that...a threat?" She asks as she watches me leave.

"No, that was a warning." I don't care about her, she can just stay out of my way waiting for her end in ignorance, but as soon as she gives me reasons, I'll kill her, I already don't like her, if I have reasons, I'll eliminate her.

The biggest problem is not knowing how important she is to the world, I can't just kill people left and right just because I want to, Yoshino was no longer important, so killing her didn't matter.

And Natsumi wasn't that important either, but Reine is something difficult to say, so killing her personally is complicated...but I can have Mukuro kill her.

Mukuro is part of the main story, so she can do such things.

"Shiori...why are you here?" After moving away from Reine, I quickly find Shiori looking a little anxious, probably because of my delay.

"Oh Aurelio, I was waiting..., but you took a while, today I made a bento for you...I was worried you almost died...I'm glad you're okay." She says shyly as she hands me a bento.

"Thank you." I take it while giving her a gentle smile, she's almost perfect, she doesn't even ask about Yoshino or what happened in that place.

And the reason is obvious, she doesn't care, Yoshino has no real value to her, currently the only people who have any value to Shiori are me and Kotori, but I know how to end that last trust.

In the end, Shiori only needs to trust me, when that happens, she'll be perfect and I'll just need to obtain her Sephira for the plan to be completed.

"Shall we go? I'm sure it will be delicious." I start complimenting her food, which puts an immediate smile on her face.

"Y-Yes, let's go." She also has a bento for herself, we both go to the roof to eat.
