Chapter 2

 

Then he pulled me into the water and held me as I struggled to breathe he held me closer "It's okay breathe in breathe out" in the most gentle and soothing way and he smiled "Don't worry I'm here" he guided me gently as we swam together and played in the pool then liam pulled me in closer our faces were inches apart and then he asked "Are you sure that's how it is now between us" as he untied my hair and tucked it behind my ear we looked at each other i could feel the butterflies having a parade in my stomach just then alex came by"Whoa am I interrupting something?" he said as he cleared his throat i drifted away from liam's arms that were on my waist"Uh no, not at all" i came out of the pool with my clothes soaking wet "Seems like it, you just ditched me at the bar and came here" he continued "Well one thing for sure is that it was worth ditching you for after what you said "i dried my hair with a towel angrily "And by the way Liam, Alex, Alex, Liam" i said "Hey gems wait you can have my clothes" Liam said pointing the chair with clothes on it and i thanked him and changed his clothes smelled so much like him and brought back so many memories i came out and i saw Alex looking at Liam like he wanted to stage a fight or something i couldn't care less i told Natalie i was going home and a friend of mine offered me a ride home throughout the ride i couldn't stop thinking about what happened at the pool between me and Liam we broke up for a reason and now he shows up being all perfect and sweet Urgghhh i hate feelings so much it's so beautiful yet so complicated i got home and went straight to my room and the minute i hit my bed i slept off.

 

******************************************"Gemmy wake up, Gemmy there's a worm on your head" i screamed and jumped out of bed and i saw my sister giggling on the floor "Mom...." i yelled as tory ran down and i chased after her"Hi aunt may" i ran past her "Wait aunt may?" "Hey darling, tory wanted to make sure you don't stay in your room all day so here we are" aunt may said as she drags Tory's cheeks "Well I'm not slouching and tory stay out of my room" i warned "Mom.... Tell tory not to barge in my room "i yelled as i glared at tory "You're welcome gemmy you should be happy to have a sister that actually cares about you and by the way you should be glad i came into your room it's not like you ever invite people over""Well for your information Nat comes over" i replied "Well... the last she was here was to ask if her lip gloss was smudged and she didn't even come into the house more or less your room" she was so annoying but come to think of it no lies were told "What are you 12?" i asked angrily "Actually I'm 12 and half to be precise" listening to her i groaned "Mom..... can you hear her" i complained "Yes honey i do, tory give your sister some break and Gemma don't you have work today" she said "Oh shoot i forgot" it was my first day of work and I'm already late"Tory this is all your fault " i frantically ran upstairs i took my bath wore my uniform ate breakfast and ran off to work "You're late" i heard a masculine voice from behind me i turned and it was my boss "Hi boss""Save it i don't care your shift already started" he said with a straight face and a stern voice and he walked away Well someone didn't wake up on the right side of the bed i dropped my bag and i stood by the counter with my pen and a mini notepad taking customers order just then i heard familiar voices i raised my head and saw it was Liam and his friends our eyes met he smiled at me and i smiled back my co worker served their table. My shift was up and i packed up ready to go home when liam walked up me "so i see your shift is up gems" i nodded a yes trying to hide my blush as i walked from behind the counter to go outside, his friends looked as us as he followed me outside "So where are you heading to he said as he tilted his head to look at me "I really don't know i think i'll be heading home since my aunt came over" "that's cool then i'll walk you home" he said as he brushed his curls with his hands i peeped at him whenever he looked away as we walked i realized that i saw his car when we came out but why would he leave it behind i wondered just then my phone buzzed it was a text from alex * If you don't mind is there by any chance you're free right now  i looked at liam and looked at my phone then i replied * Sure i am *  i instantly regret sending it and he told me to meet at the park close to our elementary school which i thought was a strange place to meet but i said okay "Liam , alex texted me to me at the park down that street" i said as i looked at him "Okay then let's go" he said smiling to be honest i haven't seen liam this happy when he's with natalie i hate to be that friend but i wonder what it would be if nat were in my shoes but lucky for her she could afford the shoes and even make some adjustments "Hey baby there you are" natalie came out from nowhere and kissed liam how did she even find us "oh hey there gemma how was work today " she said as she kissed liam again i mean yeah i know he's now my ex she should at least be less lovey dovey around me then she walked in between liam and i "Where did you come from by the way" i asked keeping it nice "Well i stopped by your coffee shop because i saw liam's car outside but there was no liam and i was worried so i asked his friends and they said you two went on a stroll and i followed the direction they saw you guys go and here i am" i turned to look at liam and he wasn't smiling it's almost as if he didn't like being with natalie i like natalie but she can be unbearable she held my hand smiling "Oh i just remembered i got something for us" natalie said as she searched her bag and brought out a jewelry box with 2 gold necklaces and a locket and she gave it to me in the locket was a picture of the both of us in our bathing suits when we were 8 with me giving natalie a foam beard and mustache it was so pretty i could feel my eyes welling up and i looked at natalie and taking back the words i've said about her and trying to forget about liam because he was now my best friend's boyfriend "I knew how much you loved this photo so i gave my jeweler to make 2 matching lockets with the photo in it" i hugged natalie "Natalie i love you so much this is the most prettiest gift anyone has given to me" she hugged me back "I would never do anything to hurt your feelings" she said and i realized i was being so selfish thinking about myself while all natalie did was make me happy liam stood as we shared how much we loved each other and then we started walking together leaving liam behind at some point i turned to look at him and he just looked at his phone we finally got to the park and i saw alex sitting and feeding the birds some crumbs "alex " i called to him and he hugged me"Gemma, how are you?" he asked after releasing me from his grip "I'm doing good" liam and nat stood there "oh you've met nat and that's her boyfriend liam" and alex glared at him "babe we gotta go i called devon to pick us up oh there he is now" i turned to see devon waving at us "Bye boo text me when you get home" she smiled and winked and i waved at them as they walked away well it was a pretty awkward moment between i and alex "What do you want alex" i finally broke the silence"Nothing actually gemma" he said looking away shyly why was he acting all different all of a sudden "Do you remember that one time in 7th grade during recess when we played hide and seek and we hid in the house at the top of the slide and then you told me you wanted to tell me something?" Alex said smiling of course i remembered and i also remembered what i was about to tell alex i had the biggest crush on him but a girl named samantha was already into him and i remembered someone telling me they dated till grade 12 and they found out she was pregnant and not for alex so they broke up even though i knew samantha was into him i still decided i would tell alex how i felt but we were interrupted by samantha trying to hide so i just forgot about it " well yes i do remember" i answered smiling"You know I've always wondered what you were about to say at that moment. Do you by any chance remember at all?" he asked and well i wasn't about to admit that i had a crush on him and then i said"No not at all" then his response sounded like he was disappointed "Okay i guess it's been long" he laughed"Gemma the next day was when you moved i was really devastated my parents even promised we would move to your town but then my father died and everything didn't go as planned so we had to stay" When i heard that my heart ached i remembered alex dad he always took us to his favorite ice cream shop to get us what we wanted even if alex's mom didn't approve the thought of the memory made my eyes tear up"Are you crying?" alex asked "No i'm not it's just that something flew in my eye" i smiled and replied trying to keep the tears from falling then i hugged alex"I know it must've been hard for you and your mom but don't worry it'll be fine" i said "It's okay gemma and i'm really sorry for being a jerk at the party i didn't really mean what i said because i didn't think before i said what i said" he apologized"Well we all make silly mistakes i do that alot and i forgive you i mean she really is prettier than me so it's okay i may have overreacted also" i said laughing while cleaning my tears, alex brought out a napkin and used it to clean my tears we looked at each other and he smiled "you are so pretty and don't ever look down on yourself" he said and i chuckled "Thank you" i blushed "By the way nice uniform" alex said laughing"Hey i came here from work let's ignore it and don't ruin the moment" i laughed we talked for a while and it was already getting late and alex offered to give me a ride home and i said okay along the way home we did some catching up and i finally got home and he smiled at me"Goodnight gemma""Goodnight alex."
