chapter 6

Chapter 5:

MORGANA

"What?" I interrupted the Doctor. I was about to get up but the banging headache I felt didn't let me. "What do you mean?" My mind was hazy and my body ached.

"What I mean is that the Alpha has a mate?" He repeated

I was dazzled. "But he said.."

"Whatever you think he said to you, don't worry about it. You need to rest and take some drugs.." He was going to give me some drugs to take.

I interrupted the Doctor totally uninterested in what he was saying. "Where is.. is he?" I managed to ask, my voice weak.

"I told you that he has errands to run, you don't expect him to be kept here all day, do you?" The doctor looked at me with a mixture of pity and confusion.

I felt like the ground should open and swallow me as I thought of the fact that the man I had run away with was actually getting married. We had sex! The thought couldn't leave my head as I turned from side to side on the bed. I had to speak to him as I removed the bed covers, swinging my feet to the edge of the bed in order to get off.

"Where are you going?" The doctor was startled. "You shouldn't be walking around or even looking for the Alpha right now."

I didn't want to listen. My legs had already touched the floor when the door opened and my eyes met with the fierce ones of Alpha Xavier.

"What's wrong, Morgana?" He asked, his eyes shifting to the doctor who just stood there. "What happened to her, is she okay?"

"Yes, my Lord." He responded, adjusting his glasses. "I think she might be angry."

"Angry?" His voice shifted from a Commanding tone to a softer one. "Why are you getting upset?" He asked, coming closer. I hate the fact my heart betrayed me, quickening as he stepped closer.

"I'll just leave and come back later. I have other patients to attend to." The doctor said, then bowing to the Lycan before leaving. Xavier wasn't even paying attention to his greeting, his gaze was just fixed on me.

"Why did you look really upset?" He asked to join me on the bed, sitting a few inches away from me. I saw a flicker of guilt in his eyes.

"What did you tell me about not being married?" I asked, trying to throw him off guard with my questions and I did. "What exactly did you tell me?"

He bent his head as he ran his fingers through his thick black hair, frustrated. "Listen, Morgana, it's not what you think. Not at all. Please let me explain." He pleaded.

I just watched him, my anger giving way to hurt but I decided to give him a chance to explain himself hoping that this was a joke or prank.

"I'm not getting married anytime soon.. "

"But you will?" I interrupted him.

"I mean.. yes. I will. To a beautiful woman I met with black long hair and green eyes.." He said, talking about me. I could suspect that he was trying to make me smile but I didn't want to be patronised.

"I'm serious." I screamed at him.

"I'm sorry, Morgana but it's quite complicated and I'm sorry I have to drag you into it." He took a deep breath. "I don't want this engagement. It was arranged for me and I'm sorry I lied, I didn't just know how to bring myself to tell you that after we had sex."

"That's the fucking problem, why did you let us have sex when you have a mate?" I asked, regretting that question. I had wanted to have sex with him too, he even asked me to make sure. Now, I was putting it all on him.

"You had a mate too." He responded, sadly.

"Yes but you knew that already." I said. My voice was barely higher than a whisper. "You let me believe that we had a future together."

His expression suddenly softened as he smiled at me. "That's so sweet of you to think that way." He stretched out his hands to touch me but I flinched. "I hoped that I could find a way to stop the marriage but I was wrong. I'm sorry."

I looked at his face, he looked sorry but sorry couldn't fix what had spoilt. I had sex with a stranger which I found out later that he was a Lycan king and I was stupid enough to follow him to his park and now I find out that he would be getting married?

What was that thought about him being the man that the moon goddess had sent to me to save me from Alpha Logan. What if this was a punishment? I wanted to cry but I held back the tears.

"What do you want from me?" I paused. "I mean you must have had some evil plan in your head to bring me here. What is it? I need to know."

"Morgana, you might not believe me but what we share is beautiful, what I feel for you.. is real. I might be trapped at the moment but I'll find a way and we'll be together." He said.

Suddenly, I felt cold shivers run through my spine. My head was banging and I couldn't think properly.

"I should have remained at the park where you found me. I shouldn't have followed you." I said, turning away from him.

"No, no. You can't say that, Morgana. You can't."

"Why can't I? You deceived me, you made me want something with you when I don't know what you want exactly." I felt the sting of betrayal even though I wanted to look into his eyes and tell him that everything will be fine. "I need to be alone, Xavier, please can you leave?"

As he stood to leave, a part of me wanted to call out to him, wanted to tell him not to worry that I would help him, save him from a marriage he didn't want because he saved me from a mate that tormented my life. Xavier was a stranger but we got to know each other and became familiar but maybe I was wrong. Maybe he was still a stranger or worse more, my enemy.
