Chapter 94

"Holy shit," Jacques whispered. He crouched lower behind the crates. "Did you see that?"

Eugene nodded, sweat beading on his forehead. "I know," he murmured. "That's the thing that attacked us at that lab."

"Yeah, but that werewolf was small. This thing is way bigger and looks absolutely stronger," Jacques gestured with his chin towards the monstrous creature.

"I know," Eugene replied. He shifted his weight, trying to get a better view without exposing himself. "And it has a mind of its own. Not like the last beast we killed. That thing moved on instincts like an animal, but this version is much more intelligent."

As if on cue, the beast's head swiveled in their direction, nostrils flaring. Jacques and Eugene froze, hardly daring to breathe. For a heart-stopping moment, it seemed the creature had spotted them. But then it turned away, distracted by the ongoing conversation between Lucien and Jean-Claude.
