"What are you doing?" she asked.
Before he could answer, a mech stomped by outside with its heavy footfalls vibrating through the floorboards. Kazuo pressed himself against the wall, peering around the window frame.
"We're moving," he said, his eyes never leaving the street below.
Amélie swung her legs over the edge of the makeshift bed, wincing as her feet hit the cold floor. "Moving? Has your friend made contact with you?"
"No," Kazuo replied, turning to face her. He hefted a backpack onto his shoulders. "Not yet. But we can't stay here."
Amélie stood, stretching out the kinks in her back as she joined him at the window. "What's happening?"
"I'm not sure. But it seems to me the government is increasing security."
