"Good form," his trainer said, offering a towel. "Let's move to squats."
Xavier wiped his face and stood. He strode to the squat rack, loading plates onto the bar.
"How many sets?" he asked, adjusting his stance.
The trainer checked his clipboard. "Four sets of eight. We'll increase the weight each time."
Xavier nodded, gripping the bar. He unracked it, the weight settling across his broad shoulders. Lowering into a deep squat, he pushed back up, repeating the motion.
"Keep your core tight," the trainer instructed. "That's it. Two more."
As Xavier completed the set, the gym door swung open. Jean-Claude entered and approached, looking out of place among the sweaty gym-goers.
"Xavier," he said. "A word?"
He reracked the bar, turning to face Jean-Claude. "What's up?"
Jean-Claude glanced at the trainer. "Privacy, please."
