Chapter 233

Xavier's hand shot up, pointing toward the ICU like he was signaling a touchdown. For a split second, Morrigan didn't get it, too focused on the fight itself. Then it clicked. Her stomach twisted in that way she hated but refused to acknowledge: realization creeping in and smacking her upside the head. This bastard wasn't stalling for fun. He was playing her, buying time so his backup could finish the job she was here to prevent.

And damn it if he hadn't done a good job of it.

Tanaka. Aris. Shit.

She shoved off him and bolted in the direction of the ICU door—no hesitation, no witty comeback, just forward motion. Her boots hammered against the floor as she raced toward where she knew they'd taken Kazuo and Aris. Whoever Xavier's team was, they had maybe seconds before she ripped through them like paper to stop whatever the hell was going down.

She didn't make it.
