Chapter 260

Kazuo stayed low as he navigated between shipping containers and kept an eye on his wrist display to track security patterns. Behind him, Gwen followed and made pace despite earlier complaints.

They paused at intersections, timing their crossings and watching the patrol lights of the mech sweeping across the place. When the coast is clear, they made their move.

But something unexpected happened.

Kazuo tripped over a loose coil of rusted wire, causing him to lurch forward and hit the concrete hard.

The movement was enough to trigger the drone overhead until it's beam landed on him, bathing him in a white glare that felt like an accusation. Suddenly, a buzzing whir filled the air as the drone adjusted its height and locked onto its newfound target.

"ENEMY DETECTED," the drone shouted.

This triggered the mech, which responded more quickly than Kazuo could comprehend as its torso swiveled along with the twin barrels on its arms, ready to strike.
