Of Wanting

"How sad. Everyone should have a desire, a want, a need; that's what makes us who we are. That which we strive for. That fills us; without it, we are nothing. Like a bowl without anything within it."

Shaifa pitied Nasiah. She turned him around and cupped his cheeks. There was something quite sad about someone who had nothing to aspire for outside of basic survival. It was almost like they were soulless.

"Perhaps that's what I was meant to be. A king and a savior, not out of desire but out of necessity. The world itself wants it, and I am here to fill that role. I come not as a bowl, but the waters of life that fills it."

Nasiah's answer caused Shaifa to scoff. To her, he doubled down on his answer, on being a soulless being made to conform and serve others and not himself.
