Learning [3]

I mumbled as I walked out of the city,

"Once again, I'm working as a freaking grunt,"

Enkidu came to me today saying that Gilgamesh wants me to deal with a few worms that were causing some trouble near the city. Some guards were even attacked, but thankfully no fatalities.

Honestly, I didn't really have a problem with it since my training with sensing magical energy and reading were coming along pretty well. Even with Enkidu's somewhat mocking way of teaching.

When I asked him why he enjoys it too much, he said that he was usually the one learning about the world around him, so being the one teaching was a 'fun change of pace' in his own words.

If that didn't sound so innocent, I probably would have targeted him for the 'unexpected rains' that usually target Gilgamesh Anyway, back to my current subject, I didn't walk that far from the city when I reached the area where the last attack obviously happened.

There were many holes in the ground, bug holes. There was a few chunks of wood and a spear head laying around, too. Guess they're from when the guards defended themselves.

"Alright, how do I get these things out of—" I didn't even finish my question before the ground under me exploded and I was flung upwards.

After a couple of seconds in the air, I fell on the ground and picked up myself up as soon as possible. Not getting hurt or feeling pain is seriously helpful to get back on your feet real quick.

I looked at where I was standing before and saw a large worm with its head turned to me. "You wanna be cooked first?" I asked rhetorically as I changed to my fire element. "Be my guest"

Once again, the ground under me exploded and I was sent to the air as a SECOND worm appeared from where I was standing.

There was now two worms.

"Okay, now you're getting on my nerves," I said as Istood up and threw a fire-ball at them.

However, they just dug themselves into the ground and vanished. "Ah come on! Get out of there!" I yelled as I walked to the holes and stomped my foot a couple of times.

They came out again from behind me and I turned to immediately throw a fireball at them. But, once again, they just dug themselves into the ground and vanished.

We kept that up WAY longer that I'd like to admit. These things are seriously annoying. Thankfully, I realised something. "Wait... what the hell am I doing?" I asked myself as I realised that I don't actually need to wait for these things to get out of the ground to find them.

I closed my eyes and began trying to sense where they are.

Enkidu told me that I can find living things by sensing their magical energy, so I might be able to find them like this.

Slowly, I began feeling two sources of "heat" under ground and I was able to tell where they are.

At first, I was confused because the usual disturbance that I had with Enkidu in Uruk wasn't there.

There was magical energy in the air, that's true, but it was way thinner than whatever was disturbing my senses back in Uruk.

Deciding to worry about that later, I focused on the two sources of heat under me and managed to pinpoint where they were.

I changed to my wood element and grew a large, pointy branch in my arm, I held it upwards and then stabbed in the ground at one of the sources of heat.

That caused one of the worms to burst from the ground, a wound being where I stabbed my branch.

I immediately changed to fire and threw a large fire ball at its head.

It started flailing in the air as the fire consumed its head.

The other one came out of the ground and tried to attack me but I immediately began shooting fire at it without stopping soon enough, the upper half of the second worm was turned to ashes while the first one dropped dead, most likely its wounds becoming too much.

I looked around and closed my eyes, trying to sense if there was anything left underground, but there was none.

"Yeah, definitely grunt work," I sighed in annoyance as I began walking back to Uruk.

Grunt work was annoying, but boy was it definitely. easier than dealing with Gaia and Alaya at the same time.

"I'm back," I stated as I walked into the castle. "Humph, are you finished with your work, Tree?"

Gilgamesh asked me while putting the tablet he was holding down,

"What work? It was just a couple of worms," I groaned. Granted they were large worms, but still "Ah, Zack, perfect timing," Enkidu said as he walked in from behind me. "Can you try sensing the area around now that you experienced the air outside?"

If I had an eyebrow, I would have raised it at him. However, I just shrugged my shoulders and complied. The disturbance was there again. Only way stronger. I can barely feel anything around. But, there was the difference that there seemed to be a source to the disturbance.

Slowly, I looked at where the source was and my eyes landed on... Gilgamesh.

(Holy shit,) I thought to myself with wide eyes.

That disturbance I was feeling? That wasn't the magic filled air of the age of gods, that was Gilgamesh, It was terrifying.

His magical energy was almost large enough to cover the entirety of Uruk, and it was the cause in why feeling anything else around was really hard.

The king of Heroes is definitely the correct title for this guy.
