Mirror. [2]

I landed on the ground and stared at Perseus as he kept up his stance. He was here for barely fifteen minutes and he already proved to be better than the nameless grunts that showed up in the past.

"Are you the beast that protects the Gorgons?" He asked me.

"I am," I replied, causing his eyes to widen. "Honestly, I'm surprised you bothered asking."

Perseus chuckled. "Oh, I didn't expect any response. Honestly, I was expecting some growling or something. Guess that means you're not as mindless as common beasts."

"Why are you here?" I asked, getting straight to the point.

"I am here to slay you and kill the beast Medusa," Perseus replied.

"Medusa is not a monster," I said firmly glaring at him.

"Is that why so many who came to this land died?"

"Those were on me, not Medusa."

"And are you not acting on her order and protecting her?"

This is going nowhere.

Perseus is convinced on what the gods told him. He's not a bad person if I remember correctly since Medusa - The Rider Servant - said he was also deceived by the gods. I can't convince him to leave, and I definitely can't just flat out kill him.

That would seriously screw up the time-line in serious negative ways. I can't also just kick his ass and send him away since him being a hero is necessary.

(Dammit! What the hell should I do? Why do human history need...) I stopped mid thought as I realised something.

Humans tell stories on how they know them, not how they ACTUALLY are. Which means...

"Haaaahahah!" I gave the most obviously fake evil laugh. "Very well, name yourself, warrior!"

I was not a talented actor... I'm just glad Medusa didn't see that...

Perseus jumped for a second before taking a stance again. "I am Perseus! I was chosen by the gods to defeat you and slay the Gorgons!"

"Very well! Then fight me!" I yelled as I turned to my metal element and turned my hands into blades.

I charged at Perseus and and sliced at him with one of my arms. He raised his shield and blocked the strike, the mirror on the shield not even getting a scratch, showing it was definitely not normal.

Perseus raised his weapon and tried to cut me but I just used my other hand to block the strike. I pushed him back and looked at the hand he struck with his weapon. There was a cut at the place that Perseus struck.

It wasn't surprising. I was using normal metal against the immortal killing spear. I guess I can use divine metal against it, but I didn't want that element to be known yet, so I'll have to keep it a secret for now.

I looked back just as Perseus charged at me, shield held high and spear in hand, and slashed at my midsection. I just changed to my water element and watched the spear pass through me.

Perseus' eyes widened and I blasted him with water.

He managed to recover enough to raise his shield but the strike still sent him flying backwards and through one of the trees.

I needed to rough him up a bit and I know something like this wouldn't be enough to keep a hero down. Proving my point, Perseus stood up, though without his helmet and showed his head full of brown hair, Without his helmet, I can see that his hair also leaned towards a red-ish color and wasn't fully brown.

I turned back to my metal element and charged at Perseus as he finished standing up. He spat away some blood and rolled away just as I sliced at where he was, cutting a tree that was there down.

Perseus stood back up and raised his shield again just as I turned around and sliced again. He stopped it with his shield and tried to cut my neck off. I just turned to water again and let the blade pass through.

I turned to my stone element and caused the ground under us to erupt, sending Perseus flying in the air. I watched him as he managed to actually correct himself and barrel-roll as he landed before standing up in a stance.

I turned to my tree element and created my self a spear made from wood. It wasn't made from the Feeder's Seed - that's what I call my magic draining seeds - but it was hard enough to stab through people.

I charged at Perseus and he blocked my stab with his shield, he tried to cut me again with the spear but I jumped back and raised my own to block it, which only succeeded in cutting my spear in two.

Not losing a second, I swung both parts of the spear at him and he to use both his shield AND his spear to block my attack. With both his hands occupied, I have him a powerful headpat from the middle and caused him to stagger backwards.

With a kick, I sent Perseus away in between the trees, and I followed close by. He ended up at the beach and I can see a boat at the shore, most likely what he used to get here.

Perseus stood up while panting. He had a line of blood running from his head, but and his armour had several dents and cuts now.

He took a stance again and levelled me with a determined glare. I decided to end this so I charged forward and just punched at him. The strike was blocked with his shield and I was left completely open for him to raise his spear and swing it downwards. *thud*

"Aaaahhh!" I faked a scream of pain as I held my shoulder and jumped back. My arm was severed and now its laying in front of Perseus. "Curse you, hero of the gods! I swear to kill you should I ever see you again!"

With that overly dramatic promise of vengeance, I turned around and ran towards the forest. I kept running until I was sure Perseus couldn't see me anymore. I obviously couldn't see him either so I was keeping track of him with my magical senses.

"Please be smart enough to leave, please be smart enough to leave, please be smart enough to leave!" I mumbled over and over again.

Perseus was wounded, tired, and he didn't manage to finish me off. Even if we fight and he beats me - which he can't - he would still have to deal with the Gorgon sisters themselves. He had nothing but disadvantages at the moment.

Thankfully, I felt his energy slowly move away from the island. He most likely took the boat I saw. I couldn't help but openly sigh in relief that he left instead of being stupidly stubborn and trying to stay.

I looked at my hand and saw that I already grew a new one. I was a little worried it wouldn't grow back since it was cut by a weapon meant to kill immortals, but I guess not being technically alive helps.

"Great, now, to hope my plan works," I sighed as I seriously hoped my ridiculous idea worked.

Humans tell stories as they know them, not as they actually are. If I made Perseus seem like a hero, then that should be enough.

At least, I hope so.

Thankfully, it worked.

Perseus wasn't known as the hero who defeated the Gorgon, but he WAS known as the hero who faced the monster of the Gorgons - the Greek call me Zeke, by the way - Zeke and lived to tell about it, along with managing to cut off one of the monster's hands.

It wasn't on the level of his original legend, but It least managed to avoid screwing up future heroes.
