Ye Mo peeked her head out from the shadows, bending slightly as she gazed up into Lin Jie's eyes.
Lin Jie, out of habit, was momentarily startled. At that very moment, Ye Mo's heart softened. She adored how Lin Jie looked when he was taken aback—so adorably clueless.
His eyes were as clear as a mountain spring, untouched by the stains of society and life.
So, Ye Mo could easily read the concern, worry, and a hint of apology in his gaze.
The last of her doubts dissipated.
Ye Mo found Lin Jie quite intriguing. He knew she was wealthy, yet never fawned over her; knew she was a popular influencer with millions of followers, yet never showered her with attention… In fact, he wouldn't even give her a single like.
What amused her more was that if she didn't message him, he'd never take the initiative to reach out.
Once, Ye Mo deliberately asked if Lin Jie was around. He said he was, so she immediately posted on her social media, claiming to be in a bad mood. Before long, her phone was flooded with messages—except from Lin Jie.
Ye Mo wondered if he hadn't seen it. But then, she saw the guy post a random picture of a cat with a caption: "So cute."
Ye Mo, suppressing a smile, sarcastically commented, "It is cute." Lin Jie promptly replied with a meme of someone nodding enthusiastically.
Ye Mo almost passed out from sheer exasperation.
Lin Jie looked at Ye Mo quizzically, briefly meeting her gaze, before feeling a bit awkward and averting his eyes, rubbing his nose.
Because Ye Mo was bending over, Lin Jie had a clear view of the dazzlingly white skin… smooth and soft.
"Sis, where do you live? I'll take you home."
Everyone who knew Lin Jie said he was skilled at managing people's emotions. But no one knew that this talent was something he gradually developed because of Su Jiamu.
Lin Jie sensed the weariness hidden behind Ye Mo's smile. He wanted to keep hanging out, but Ye Mo was already tired. He couldn't be that selfish.
Ye Mo's sharp gaze fell on Lin Jie, making him feel uneasy. Thankfully, he wasn't foolish enough to voice every thought aloud.
"Tell me, what's going on between us?"
Seeing Lin Jie about to bolt, Ye Mo took a long stride, grabbed his collar, and yanked him in front of her, her smile cold and dangerous. "Speak up, what's the deal... Are you not interested in me?"
Lin Jie mumbled something incoherent before glancing at her and whispering, "Any man would be interested in you, okay?"
"And what about you?" Ye Mo pressed.
Lin Jie felt the question was too direct, but in this fast-paced, casual era of love, where some people would skip right to intimacy before even getting to know each other, he figured—what was the point of being coy?
"I'm interested in you too," Lin Jie said with a defiant expression, as if daring her to challenge him.
"Wow, really? Because I don't feel it at all." Ye Mo released him, then suddenly pinched his cheeks with her soft, pale hands, smirking mischievously. "Interested? My foot."
Lin Jie was at a loss for words.
Say you're not interested, she gets angry. Say you are, she doesn't believe you… What was he supposed to say?
Seeing his expression, Ye Mo lightly patted the back of his head. "Good boy, let big sis take you home."
Lin Jie looked at her, confused. "Isn't it supposed to be me taking you home?"
Watching Ye Mo's delicate brows begin to rise, Lin Jie immediately raised his hands in surrender. "Fine, fine, let's go home."
Ye Mo seemed particularly pleased with his compliance. She smiled and said, "I heard that girl you like from next door is back. Take me to see her."
Lin Jie, who had already turned to walk toward the intersection—where it would be easier to hail a cab—nearly stumbled to the ground at her words.
He whipped around in shock. "How do you know she's back?"
Ye Mo wore a mysterious smile, saying nothing, playing the role of an enigmatic master.
Lin Jie stood frozen, his mind filled with question marks.
"Did my uncle tell you?" he asked, but then shook his head, answering himself. "No, that doesn't make sense. My uncle doesn't even know when she returned… Why do you want to see her?"
Ye Mo, hands in her pockets, strode ahead, her long legs carrying her confidently into the night. Her tall, striking figure was particularly captivating in the twilight.
She looked effortlessly cool and commanding.
Ye Mo mused inwardly. She didn't need to ask around. A beautiful girl like Su Jiamu would surely have her social media set to allow strangers to view her posts. Ye Mo had noted her WeChat ID last time, and today, out of boredom, checked her profile, only to see that her latest post said she'd returned home from her trip.
Yet, to Lin Jie, it was as though she'd learned this through some arcane means.
"I just want to see what this girl looks like in real life. The one who's got you so utterly bewitched, so much so that you're calling out her name in my embrace." Ye Mo turned abruptly, her smile dazzling, though it carried a hint of danger.
Ah, finally. She'd held back for days, and now she could say it.
Lin Jie was thoroughly embarrassed. He racked his brain, trying to recall that drunken night, but no matter how hard he thought, he couldn't remember ever being in Ye Mo's arms.
Ye Mo had actually seen Su Jiamu's selfie on her social media.
Hmm, she looked pretty good. Great figure too. One of those sweet, bubbly internet darlings.
But so what?
Ye Mo could be a sweetheart too!
