Skylar
"Sit," the Alpha said, nodding to the black leather recliner in front of his desk.
I hesitated, uncomfortably eyeing the chair. Sitting there would put me too close to him, and I wasn't sure I could manage it.
"Relax. "I'm not going to hurt you," he told me, despite the fact that the things I'd heard had made me nervous. "Please, have a seat."
With apprehension, I followed his instructions, his gaze searing into mine. Despite being in the company of the Alpha, I felt a peculiar sense of relaxation flood over me after taking my seat. But the worry of my uncertain fate lingered, overshadowing any sense of tranquilly.
"What's your name?" he asked.
"Skylar," I mumbled, my hands fumbling on my lap.
"Skylar," he said quietly, the sound of my name on his lips more appealing than I wanted to admit. I looked up to see his gaze soften, his eyes a fascinating ocean blue.
"I am Dominic. "You can call me Xander," he announced, taking me off guard.
"Do you always treat your enemies like this?" I blurted out, taken aback by his casual demeanour.
Dominic appeared amused by my question. "Is that how it seems to you?"
"It's quite different from what I've heard," I conceded, unsure of how to interpret his behaviour. It seemed improbable that a leader with so many responsibilities would engage in small chat with me.
Dominic's eyes darkened somewhat. "You already know who I am. Tell me, I'm interested in hearing your point of view."
I caught his gaze in amazement at his request. "I know enough to wonder why I'm here."
He narrowed his gaze at me. "If you know who I am, then you know the answer to that."
"I was taken from my pack by force," I explained. "But how does kidnapping me benefit anyone?"
Dominic grumbled, his demeanour changing as he approached me and leaned in close. I felt a burst of fear, but also something disturbing and exciting.
"You are not the enemy," he said softly, his eyes fixated on my lips.
His presence sent thrills down my spine, and I found myself leaning in against my better judgement.
"Then what am I?" I dared to challenge, my voice barely audible.
"Mine," he said huskily. "You're mine."
Confused by his unexpected declaration, I met his focused look in search of answers. But before I could process his words, he filled the gap between us, his lips taking mine in a searing kiss.
The sensation was thrilling, kindling a fire within me that I battled to control. However, when the intensity of the moment began to overpower me, I backed away, breathless and conflicted.
As I attempted to regain my composure, Dominic drew me back to him, his grip hard and possessive.
"Are you still going to deny what's between us?" he asked, his eyes unflinching.
I pushed against him, feeling a rush of rage and confusion. How could I feel pulled to someone who was supposed to be my enemy?
But as he got closer, his words pierced through the confusion in my thoughts, presenting a fact I couldn't ignore.
Mate.
At that point, everything became evident. Despite the odds, Dominic, the Alpha I had been raised to fear, became my mate.
