Chapter 93: Deep in the Earth

The new passage was narrow and uneven, requiring the group to move in single file. The air grew denser and more humid as they descended, and the cold stone walls seemed to close in around them. The torches illuminated only a few meters ahead, casting unsettling shadows in every corner of the passage.

Rodrigo led the group, focused and alert. Each step was careful, knowing that an ambush could be lurking at any moment. The sound of their footsteps echoed in the passage, creating an even more claustrophobic atmosphere. Behind him, Sebastian and Olavo followed in silence, sharing the same feeling of anticipation.

After a while, the narrow passage began to widen, revealing a large underground hall. The ceiling was high, supported by natural rock columns that seemed to have been shaped by human hands. In the center of the hall, a large stone table was covered with parchments, maps, and ancient objects. But what caught his attention the most was a large stone door at the back of the room, covered with the same symbols Rodrigo had seen on the map.

"It seems we've reached the heart of all this," Olavo murmured, approaching the table. He began to examine the parchments, trying to decipher the inscriptions. "These documents are old, very old. But they all point to a single goal: to open that door."

Rodrigo approached the door, studying the symbols that covered it. There was a palpable aura of power emanating from it, something he couldn't ignore. "This door… is sealed by a force that cannot be easily broken. We need to understand how these symbols work."

Sebastião, meanwhile, was more concerned with the surrounding environment. "If this room is so important, why was it so unguarded? Where are the guardians? Something isn't right."

At that moment, a distant, reverberating sound echoed through the room, as if something was moving in the depths below them. The group stopped, exchanging tense glances. The hall, which had previously seemed abandoned, now seemed alive with an unseen presence.

"We are being watched," Rodrigo said in a grave tone. "We are not alone here."

Before they could react, the stone door began to vibrate, emitting a faint, pulsing glow. The symbols on it began to light up, one by one, as if responding to an unseen force. Rodrigo stepped back, instinctively drawing his sword. Something was awakening, and he had no doubt that they were about to face a danger they had never imagined.

"Prepare yourselves," Rodrigo ordered, his voice firm. "Whatever it is, we are ready."

The soldiers positioned themselves around the hall, weapons drawn, waiting for what was to come. The hall seemed to breathe, as if an ancient energy was about to manifest itself.

The door, now fully illuminated, began to open slowly, revealing an impenetrable darkness on the other side. Rodrigo felt a shiver run down his spine. The coming battle was not only physical, but also spiritual. And the key to winning lay in the secrets of that cave.
