Chapter 97: The Shadows of the Cave

The group finally reached the entrance to a cave, hidden among crumbling rocks and twisted vegetation. The atmosphere around them seemed even more suffocating, as if the very air was permeated with ancient secrets and forgotten stories. Afonso stopped in front of the entrance, his expression becoming serious.

"This is where the answers begin to reveal themselves," he said, looking at Rodrigo. "But be careful. What you will find in this cave may not be what you expect."

Rodrigo nodded, feeling a weight on his chest. Something inside him warned him that from that point on, there would be no turning back. "We are ready. Whatever it is, we will face it together."

Sebastião and Olavo exchanged glances, both aware of the imminent danger, but firm in their decision to move forward. The soldiers, although apprehensive, remained in formation, ready for any threat.

The cave was dark and damp, its walls covered in a kind of glowing slime that gave off a faint luminescence. Each footstep echoed in the depths, amplifying the sound as if the shadows themselves were whispering to each other.

As they advanced, the environment became more claustrophobic. The air seemed thicker, and the glow of the slime increased, casting strange shadows on the walls. Afonso led the group firmly, his sure steps indicating that he knew this path well.

After a few minutes of walking, the narrow passage opened into a wide, circular chamber. In the center, a source of green light shone, radiating a pulsating energy that made the floor tremble slightly. Around the light, ancient inscriptions covered the floor and walls, forming a complex pattern that seemed alive, moving subtly before their eyes.

"This is the heart of the cave," said Afonso, his voice echoing in the chamber. "The place where the magic of this world is strongest. Here, the barriers between past and present are blurred, and the secrets you seek are closer than ever."

Rodrigo felt a tingle run up his spine as he stared at the light. It seemed to call to him, luring him with promises of knowledge and power. But there was something dark about the energy emanating from the source, something that sent chills down his spine.

"What now?" Olavo asked, keeping close to the others. "What do we do?"

Afonso looked at the light, his expression serious. "Now, you must face your own demons. Each of you has something that ties you to this place, something that must be resolved before we move forward. The light will reveal what you need to see… but be careful, it may also show you what you fear most."

Before they could react, the light intensified its brightness, filling the chamber with a blinding glow. Rodrigo felt his vision blur, as if he were being pulled into a distant place, a forgotten memory, a moment lost in time.

He knew he was about to face something profound, something that could define the course of his journey. And as the light enveloped him, he braced himself for what was to come, knowing that his fate was about to be decided.
