"Is it possible?" Ava asked, skeptical, yet hopeful.
"I'll try." He offered her a reassuring smile as he carefully slipped the broken phone into his pocket. "Let's get out of here."
Without wasting any more time, they hurried out of the alley and made their way to their cars. Ava's urgency grew as they neared the street.
"We have to stop Gianna and Brian," Ava said urgently. "Let's go to the cops."
But Nicholas shook his head. "Not yet…" His tone was measured. "First, I'll recover whatever you recorded. Once we have solid evidence, then we'll go to the police. And don't worry about Gianna and Brian—they won't be able to escape. I'll find out everything about them and reach out to you soon. Now, go home. I'll call you later."
After a brief exchange of goodbyes, they parted ways. Ava drove home, her mind swirling with thoughts of the danger she had narrowly escaped. Meanwhile, Nicholas headed straight to his office.
