Chapter 6: Into the Lion’s Den

Part 1: Planning the Next Move

The night sky hung heavy over Beijing, its neon-lit skyline casting long, flickering shadows through the window of Lin Feng's apartment. He stood silently, staring out into the city, his mind racing with thoughts about what lay ahead. Behind him, his laptop hummed quietly, the A.I. silently working in the background, constantly scanning for potential threats.

Li Wei.

The name sat in the back of Lin's mind like a dark cloud. It all made sense now—the surveillance bug, the sudden attack at his grandfather's house, and the encrypted messages Chen had been receiving. Li Wei had caught wind of something, something valuable, and he wasn't going to stop until he had control over it.

But what did Li Wei know? Did he suspect the existence of the A.I.? Or was he simply targeting Lin because of his growing influence in the tech world? Either way, Lin knew one thing for certain: he couldn't wait for Li Wei to make another move.

Lin turned away from the window, his thoughts shifting to the people he cared about most—Liu Xinyue and Zhao Yue, the two women who had been with him through thick and thin. He had warned them about the danger, and they had agreed to help him, but that wasn't enough. Li Wei was a predator, and Lin knew he would come after them if he thought they were valuable pawns in his game.

It was time to go on the offensive.

"Can you track Li Wei's movements?" Lin asked the A.I., his voice barely above a whisper.

"Affirmative. I am currently monitoring Li Wei's known digital networks and communication channels," the A.I. responded smoothly. "Preliminary analysis suggests that Li Wei will be attending a private meeting tomorrow evening at a location in the downtown district. The meeting is related to a high-level acquisition deal."

Lin's eyes narrowed. This was his chance.

"Can you access the security systems at the meeting location?" Lin asked.

"Yes. I can infiltrate the building's security network remotely and disable or manipulate surveillance feeds as necessary."

Lin nodded, feeling a surge of confidence. If he could get close enough to Li Wei, maybe he could gather the information he needed—find out exactly what the man knew and what he was planning. But he couldn't do this alone.

It was time to bring in some reinforcements.

Part 2: Liu Xinyue's Expertise

The next morning, Lin met with Liu Xinyue in a quiet, out-of-the-way café in the heart of the city. Xinyue, a brilliant hacker who had built a reputation as one of the most skilled tech experts in Beijing, had been Lin's go-to partner for years. She had a sharp mind and an even sharper sense of loyalty, traits that had made her indispensable in Lin's rise through the tech world.

She arrived promptly, her dark hair pulled back into a loose ponytail, and her eyes alert. She wasted no time getting to the point.

"Alright, Lin, I've been looking into Li Wei's operations," Xinyue said, sliding into the seat across from him. "You were right—he's been expanding his network over the past few months. Most of his targets have been small tech firms, but I'm starting to see a pattern."

Lin leaned forward, listening intently. "What kind of pattern?"

"Li Wei's been collecting information," Xinyue said, lowering her voice. "He's been targeting companies and individuals who have access to high-level encryption software, A.I. research, and data analytics. It's like he's trying to build some kind of… I don't know, a digital empire. And from what I can tell, he's been watching you for a while."

Lin frowned. That fit with what he had been piecing together, but the idea that Li Wei was trying to build something more dangerous than just a tech conglomerate made things even worse.

"I need to get close to him," Lin said, his voice low. "He's attending a private meeting tomorrow night. I want to get in and see what he's up to. I could use your help to make sure I can access their network without setting off any alarms."

Xinyue raised an eyebrow. "You want me to hack into the building's security system?"

Lin nodded. "Can you do it?"

Xinyue smirked, leaning back in her seat. "Please. That's child's play."

Lin smiled, relieved. "Good. I'll need you on standby when I'm inside. I want you to monitor everything—cameras, security feeds, communications—anything that could give us an edge."

Xinyue gave a nod, her expression serious. "You've got it. Just don't do anything stupid while you're in there. Li Wei doesn't mess around."

Lin chuckled softly. "Trust me, I'll be careful."

Part 3: Zhao Yue's Strategy

Later that afternoon, Lin met with Zhao Yue, the sharp-witted financial expert who had been instrumental in helping him navigate the complex world of tech investments and acquisitions. Zhao Yue wasn't just a brilliant strategist—she was also fiercely protective of those she cared about. Lin knew she would be just as concerned about the growing threat posed by Li Wei.

They met at one of Zhao Yue's favorite spots, a sleek, modern rooftop restaurant that overlooked the bustling streets below. As always, Zhao Yue looked perfectly composed, her sharp eyes focused on Lin as he explained the situation.

"So, Li Wei's been watching you," Zhao Yue said, tapping her fingers lightly against the table. "And now you want to confront him at this meeting."

Lin nodded. "That's the plan. I need to know what he's up to and what he knows about me. But more importantly, I need to stop him before he becomes a bigger threat."

Zhao Yue's expression remained calm, but Lin could see the wheels turning in her mind. She was already calculating the risks and rewards, weighing the potential outcomes.

"You realize this could be dangerous," Zhao Yue said, her voice steady. "Li Wei doesn't play by the rules. If he's been spying on you, it means he sees you as a threat. And he doesn't handle threats lightly."

"I know," Lin said. "But I can't sit back and wait for him to make the next move. If I let him keep watching me, he'll figure out something he shouldn't."

Zhao Yue sighed, leaning back in her chair. "Alright. If you're going to do this, you'll need more than just hacking skills. You'll need leverage. Something to keep him off balance."

Lin frowned. "What kind of leverage?"

Zhao Yue's eyes gleamed as she leaned forward, lowering her voice. "Li Wei's been making a lot of backdoor deals lately. I've been keeping an eye on some of his financial movements, and I've found some… irregularities. It looks like he's been funneling money into offshore accounts—probably to cover up illegal activities."

Lin's eyes widened. "You can prove that?"

Zhao Yue smiled faintly. "I can. And if you play your cards right, you can use that information to pressure him. He won't be able to move against you if he's worried about exposure."

Lin nodded, impressed. Zhao Yue had always been a master strategist, and now, with this new information, he had a real advantage.

"Alright," Lin said, feeling a surge of confidence. "I'll use the information as leverage. But I'll need your help to monitor his financial movements while I'm inside. If he tries to pull something, I want to know about it immediately."

Zhao Yue gave a slight nod, her expression serious. "I'll handle it. Just make sure you don't get in too deep. Li Wei isn't someone you can take lightly."

Lin smiled. "I know. But I won't be going in unprepared."

Part 4: Into the Meeting

The following evening, Lin stood outside the entrance to the towering skyscraper where Li Wei's private meeting was being held. The building loomed above him, sleek and modern, its glass windows reflecting the neon lights of the city. Lin adjusted the collar of his jacket, feeling the steady pulse of the A.I. in the back of his mind.

"Everything's ready on my end," Liu Xinyue's voice came through Lin's earpiece. "I've got full access to the building's security systems. Cameras are under our control, and I can disable any alarms if needed."

"Good," Lin replied softly. "I'm heading in."

With a final glance around to ensure he wasn't being followed, Lin stepped inside the building, making his way toward the elevator that would take him to the upper floors where the meeting was taking place. He had memorized the layout of the building, thanks to the schematics Xinyue had pulled for him, and the A.I. was constantly feeding him updates on the movements of security personnel.

The elevator ride was smooth, and within minutes, Lin found himself stepping out onto the 35th floor, where a sleek, high-end conference room awaited. A few men in expensive suits milled around, chatting quietly amongst themselves as they waited for the meeting to begin.

Lin kept his head down, blending in as best he could. The A.I. monitored every conversation, picking up on small details and names as the men spoke. It wasn't long before Li Wei himself arrived, entering the room with an air of authority. He was a short man, with sharp features and cold eyes that seemed to assess everyone around him as potential prey.

Lin stayed in the shadows, watching carefully as the meeting began. Li Wei wasted no time, discussing various acquisition deals and partnerships with the men in the room, but Lin knew there was more happening behind the scenes.

As the meeting continued, Lin's earpiece crackled to life.

"Lin," Xinyue's voice came through. "I'm picking up some strange activity on Li Wei's private server. It looks like he's preparing to transfer a large sum of money into one of his offshore accounts. Zhao Yue's keeping an eye on it."

Lin's pulse quickened. This was it—the leverage he needed.

He slipped out of the room quietly, making his way down a side hallway toward Li Wei's private office. If he could access the terminal there, he might be able to gather the evidence he needed to expose Li Wei once and for all.

But as he approached the office, a figure stepped out of the shadows, blocking his path.

"Going somewhere, Feng?"

Lin's heart skipped a beat. The man standing in front of him was tall and muscular, with a cold, c

alculating gaze that told Lin he wasn't just a regular bodyguard.

This wasn't going to be easy.
