Claire frowned, trying to piece together the revelation. "But... why didn't he tell me? He never mentioned anything like that to me."

Sharon shrugged lightly. "That's just Ethan. He's not the type to talk about his plans openly. But I think, whatever his reasons are, they're tied to you."

Claire fell silent again, digesting Sharon's words. There was so much about Ethan she didn't understand—about him, their journey, and even about herself.

"Sharon," Claire said quietly, breaking the silence, "how did you manage to escape the royal guards from Etrill? Weren't they chasing all of us?"

Sharon let out a soft laugh, though there was a hint of bitterness in it. "Oh, that was easy. I have no direct connection to you, Claire. They know that. To them, I'm just a wandering traveler who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. They had no reason to arrest or pursue me."

Claire looked at Sharon with curiosity. "So... they just let you go?"
