Husband and Wife, Never Defeated
After hearing the first half of Lott's comment, Morgan felt a surge of frustration, but his subsequent words brought a satisfied smile to her face.
"Okay," she said, "you might be a hardworking fool, but you're not as lazy as a fool who tries to avoid work but still struggles. Our strength as a couple lies in our ability to work together."
Morgan reassured Lott with a confident smile. Together, we are unstoppable.
As Lott considered solutions to their current crisis, he thought about how to boost food production. The farming reforms we've implemented are just one piece of the puzzle. Our immediate priority is to address the food shortage.
He turned to Morgan with a proposal. "Morgan, how about we start developing marine fisheries?"
Morgan was taken aback. "Fishing?"
Lott, undeterred, explained, "Yes, we have abundant fish resources that are currently going to waste. Britain's geographical advantages, especially in marine resources, are significant. We should utilize these resources to alleviate our food shortages."
Despite Britain being an island, its people had traditionally focused on agriculture rather than marine fisheries. The idea of exploiting the sea for fish was new and unconventional for them.
Morgan hesitated. "But we haven't done this before?"
Lott, eager to convince her, added, "Remember how we successfully transported soldiers during our campaign? We can apply the same logistics to transporting fish."
Morgan nodded slowly, recognizing the merit in Lott's argument. "Alright, we'll try it."
Determined, Morgan mentally vowed to overcome the challenges facing Britain. She thought, This era won't end under my watch. Lott and I will build a thriving empire for our child.
Turning to Lott, she said with resolve, "Let's proceed with your plan."
Lott beamed at her agreement and was momentarily distracted by Morgan's playful demeanour. "What's the plan?"
Morgan, realizing her initial response might have been too vague, responded with a smile, "Well, we'll work on this together."
As night fell, Lott and Morgan headed to their bedroom, ready to rest and prepare for the challenges ahead.
The Loyalty of Galahad
Preparations for the fishing initiative were underway, but Morgan had other pressing matters to address. Galahad, having endured several days in Chalk City, finally approached Morgan with an important inquiry.
In the palace hall, Morgan, draped in a veil, greeted Galahad. "Secretary Galahad, what brings you here?"
Morgan felt a pang of anxiety. I've neglected to follow up on Galahad's situation. What if Galahad asks about him?
Galahad, serious and curious, asked, "Do you know who I am?"
Morgan was aware of his significance. The Knights of the Round Table, established by her, had a legendary reputation, and Galahad's role in it was well-known.
"Yes, of course. If I didn't know your identity, I wouldn't have invited you to join the Knights of the Round Table," Morgan said confidently.
Galahad acknowledged her words, understanding the significance of his position. "Then, what is the purpose of my visit?"
Morgan, slightly flustered, tried to find a suitable response. Why did you come? I can't tell him it's just to recruit him or that you were brought here by Lott.
Morgan composed herself and said, "If you're here, it's obviously because you're valued. Lott, the King of Orkney, wouldn't bring someone of your calibre out to the suburbs for no reason."
Galahad's eyes widened in surprise. So, it's true. I was indeed brought here by Morgan.
"Then what is your specific purpose?" Galahad continued to probe.
Morgan thought quickly, drawing from Lott's earlier discussions. She considered the context of Britain's challenges, including the gods' influence and the role of figures like Galahad and Lancelot.
"I'm here to reshape our destiny," Morgan declared. "I refuse to accept Britain's demise. I'm determined to change our fate."
With this renewed sense of purpose, Morgan and Lott pressed forward in their efforts, both in addressing immediate needs and in preparing for the future challenges that lay ahead. Their commitment to overcoming obstacles together was unwavering, and their combined strength would be tested as they faced the trials of the era.
