Chapter Thirty-Six.

The car's engine hummed softly as Oliver pulled into a quiet, secluded area. The trees flanked the road, casting long shadows as the sun dipped toward the horizon. Kayla sat silently beside him, glancing out the window, trying to decipher where they were.

When he parked, Oliver unbuckled his seatbelt and turned to her with a dry smile. "Stay here. I know following instructions isn't your specialty but be a good girl for once, Hastings?" His tone was teasing but firm, with just enough bite to make her bristle.

Kayla glared at him. "I know how to follow orders, Oliver."

He only chuckled, getting out of the car and locking it behind him with a beep. She watched him disappear through the gates of a large brick building just ahead.

Her curiosity gnawed at her. What was he doing here? Her wild imagination brought up images of him being a serial killer. What if she was his next victim? No, she wouldn't die here! She had to know what he was up to!
