In the middle of an extravagant hotel suite, a young man lay sprawled on the massive bed. His eyes shot open, wide with disbelief, as he bolted upright, scanning his surroundings.
"This… this wasn't a dream?" he mumbled to himself, his voice shaky, still trying to process what had happened. Slowly, he got out of bed and made his way toward the large mirror on the wall.
Staring back at him was someone he barely recognized. Blonde hair. Blue eyes. Fair, almost porcelain skin. He traced his fingers over his reflection, eyes lingering on the strong, defined features. His build—muscular and toned—was far more athletic than what he was used to.
"Blonde hair, blue eyes, and… a body like this? This can't be real," he muttered, admiring the new, almost perfect form that stood before him.
He couldn't help but smirk. "I look nothing like the college kid I was back then."
Sitting on the edge of the bed, he mumbled to himself, "So… I was really reincarnated?"
As the realization fully sank in, a wave of joy surged through him. "Yes! YES!" he shouted, his voice echoing in the lavish suite as he reveled in the thrill of a second chance at life.
"Damn," he muttered with a laugh, shaking his head. "And here I was thinking all of that was just a dream."
He paused, then called out in a low voice, "System, are you there?"
A digital voice rang in his mind:
[Yes, host. Congratulations on unlocking memories of your previous life.]
[The system is rebooting and will be fully synchronized with you shortly.]
Dave nodded thoughtfully as he sifted through the memories of his new life. "So… my father was a genius," he mumbled, piecing together the fragments of this world.
From what he recalled, his father had been a financial prodigy—a mastermind of the stock market who'd built an empire worth hundreds of billions. But tragedy had struck just last night. His father had died in a plane crash, and the shock of hearing the news had shaken Dave to his core.
It made sense now. The trauma must have triggered something deep within him, something that allowed the memories of his previous life to resurface. Or maybe it was just a coincidence—after all, he vaguely remembered a snippet from a dream, something about his past-life memories unlocking when he turned 18. And yesterday had been his 18th birthday.
The timing was almost too perfect.
"I'll be damned if my father's death was what triggered my memory awakening," Dave muttered to himself, the thought weighing heavily on his mind.
[You don't have to worry, host. It wasn't your memory awakening that caused it. It was just a coincidence, as you believe,] the system chimed in.
Dave sighed in relief. "Thank you, that lifts a huge burden." He couldn't bear the thought of someone dying just to set the stage for his new life.
"So, are you supposed to be my system genie or something?" Dave asked, his tone calm as he processed the presence of this strange voice.
[Yes, host. You could say that,] the system responded.
"What's your name?" Dave asked, gazing into the empty air as if visualizing a conversation.
[I don't have a name,] came the reply.
"Hmm, then can I give you one?" Dave suggested, imagining what his system might look like if it were a person.
[Yes, naming is allowed,] the system confirmed.
"How about Sei? It's a short form of Saisei, which means rebirth."
[Sei… that will be my name from now on,] the system replied, adopting the name with a tone of finality.
As Dave named the system, the door suddenly opened, and a strikingly beautiful woman walked in. She moved swiftly to him and enveloped him in a warm, tight hug.
"I am so sorry," she said, her voice trembling with emotion.
Dave scanned his memories, piecing together her identity. Rumia Garcia, my aunt, he thought as he looked at her.
Rumia had black hair and blue eyes. Dave's blonde hair came from his mother's side, while his blue eyes were inherited from his father. The contrast between their features was striking, but there was no mistaking the family resemblance.
"It's okay, you can cry," Rumia said softly, noticing Dave's stillness and emotional detachment.
When Dave remained unresponsive, Rumia looked at his emotionless face and broke down in tears. "How can God be so cruel?" she murmured through her sobs, holding him tightly as her grief poured out.
As two more people entered the room and saw Dave's impassive expression, their hearts ached for him as well. They could sense the weight of his sorrow, even if he wasn't showing it.
Keep calm, stay strong; the best is to remain composed, Dave thought to himself, struggling to maintain his icy facade. It felt as though his body wanted to cry, but something was holding back his emotions.
He then recalled his father's words, echoing in his mind: "Never show your vulnerability. Always stay strong." It was a mantra his previous self had lived by, and it was subconsciously influencing the new Dave, making it difficult for him to express his true feelings.
Eventually, Dave hugged his aunt back and said softly, "I'm okay, Aunt."
Rumia looked at his face, her eyes searching for the truth behind his smile. Seeing the genuine expression on his face, she nodded, though a hint of concern remained. "Really?" she asked, gently caressing his cheek.
"I am," Dave affirmed, his tone reassuring. He then turned his attention to the other two people in the room.
"These are the butler and the secretary of your father," Rumia explained, gesturing toward the two individuals. "After his death, they've been dedicated to serving you. I came to introduce them to you."
After an hour did the trio leave,
"Hmmm, that was intense," Dave mumbled to himself as he stretched. For the past hour, all three of them—Rumia, the butler, and the secretary—had drilled him on how to handle various matters. They covered everything from dealing with visitors to managing the estate, all the things his father had kept him away from.
Dave's father had always wanted him to live a normal, lavish life, shielded from the political and business struggles that he himself was embroiled in. But now, that life seemed no longer possible.
