A Surprising Offer

That Monday morning, the cafe was eerily quiet. Noah stood behind the counter, staring blankly at the empty tables, his mind clouded with worry. The familiar hum of the espresso machine couldn't drown out the storm of thoughts racing through his head. The weight of his eviction loomed over him like a dark cloud, and each passing minute felt heavier than the last.

Outside, Oliver was on his usual route to school when he passed by the cafe. Something felt off. He paused, glancing through the window, and immediately noticed Noah. The usual warm, comforting vibe of the cafe was replaced with an air of heaviness, and Noah's face was drawn tight with stress.

Concerned, Oliver stepped inside. "Hey, Noah. You okay?"

Noah looked up, startled. His eyes were wide, and for a moment, he seemed ready to burst. Without thinking, he started talking, his words tumbling out in a rush. "I—I've been evicted. I don't know what to do. The rent's overdue, and I've been given two days to clear out. I've got nowhere to go, and the cafe isn't making enough to cover everything. I'm... I'm completely lost."

Oliver stood there, taking in Noah's panicked state. His heart sank, but an idea quickly formed in his mind. His parents were always away, leaving their massive house empty. It was cold and lonely, but now, maybe it could serve a purpose. A way to help Noah—and maybe bring them closer.

Without hesitation, Oliver's eyes brightened. "Noah, I have an idea," he said, almost too eagerly. "Why don't you come stay with me for a while? I've got plenty of space at home, and it's just me there. You can live with me in exchange for... well, helping me out with my studies. And you know, just being around."

Noah blinked, shocked by the sudden offer. "Oliver, I couldn't possibly—"

"You can," Oliver interrupted, smiling warmly. "I mean it. You've been there for me, helping me with history and everything else. Let me return the favor. It's no trouble at all."

For a moment, Noah stood still, taken aback by the kindness in Oliver's words. He had no other options, and the thought of staying with someone who genuinely cared eased the suffocating panic that had gripped him all morning.

Finally, Noah exhaled, his shoulders relaxing ever so slightly. "Thank you, Oliver. I... I don't know what to say."

Oliver chuckled, feeling a flutter of excitement in his chest. "Don't worry about it. Just think of it as us helping each other out." He winked, already imagining how this new arrangement could bring them closer.

With a nod and a relieved smile, Noah agreed. Little did either of them know, this was just the beginning of a deeper connection forming between them.
