Damien's POV.

Blood drained from my fingertips and they were suddenly stiff as circulation stopped. My lungs were unable to inflate themselves with air. It was like all my vital functions had halted at that second.

It was designed to kill her.

Like clockwork, my body started functioning again. I blinked once, twice and then several times as reality started streaming back. I glanced at the healer then back to Arielle.

Panic was setting in again at her pale state but I swallowed it back and turned to the healer.

"Healer, you are very respected. I've met you in this place, you have been here for a long time. Are you telling me she can't survive this?" I asked slowly.

The ticking seconds that came after my question felt like another bomb could go off as my eyes watched the healer's face contort into a frown as he carefully thought of an answer.

But before he could open his mouth and reply, the door to my room burst open.
