Chapter 40: The King of Bootlickers—Flender!

Yun Feng smiled and nodded.

"I won't deny that. But I also want to ease her suffering a little. After all, she's been severely injured and still has to hide and rush around. It makes my heart ache."

Ah Yin, at this point, had completely given up trying to speak with Yun Feng.

She was utterly exhausted.

Two days later.

Balak Kingdom was located in the south of the Heaven Dou Empire, bordering the Fasno Province. Although it was called a kingdom, its area was only three-quarters the size of Fasno Province. It was one of the four kingdoms under the rule of the Heaven Dou Empire.

The king of Balak, Kundera, was the cousin of the current Heaven Dou Emperor, Xue Ye.

To the south, the Balak Kingdom directly bordered the Star Luo Empire. Therefore, among the four kingdoms of the Heaven Dou Empire, Balak had the strongest military power and served as the empire's gateway.

Originally, the Heaven Dou Empire had ten provinces. Over time, with the division of the four kingdoms, six major forces emerged. The empire directly controlled five provinces, while each of the four kingdoms managed one province, and there was also a duchy almost as powerful as a kingdom that occupied the empire's smallest eastern province.

On the surface, the four kingdoms and the duchy were under the rule of the Heaven Dou Empire. However, in reality, these five states had long become nations within the nation. Apart from the required tributes, they operated independently in almost every other aspect.

If it weren't for the heavy military power still held by the Heaven Dou royal family, internal strife might have broken out long ago.

The Star Luo Empire had a similar situation. So, although both empires appeared strong on the outside, they were actually in decline.

No one could say when the entire continent's balance of power might suddenly shift.

Within the Balak Kingdom, there were two particularly important cities. One was the capital, Balak City, where King Kundera resided, serving as the political and economic hub of the kingdom. The other was Soto City, located in the fertile Lima Plains, known as the kingdom's granary.

Both cities were heavily guarded and held great strategic importance.

Soto City was a large city. This could be seen from the fact that its Spirit Hall was classified as a third-level main hall, a status reserved for significant locations.

At midday, the scorching sun blazed overhead. Yun Feng looked at the towering city gates before him and couldn't help but sigh in admiration.

"This world is truly dominated by spirit masters."

Soto City was far larger than Notting City and naturally much busier. Soldiers patrolled the streets regularly, and crowds of people bustled about in a constant stream.

It was Yun Feng's first time seeing such a massive city, and his curiosity got the better of him, prompting him to wander around a bit more.

As he passed through some of the more secluded alleyways, Yun Feng almost got lost.

For those with weak willpower, it would be all too easy to get trapped in there.

The ladies inside were just too... kindhearted.

As soon as they saw Yun Feng, they offered him divine fruit and honeyed peaches, even though he insisted he had no money.

These "goddesses," as they called themselves, using the pretense of charity, still insisted on forcing their goods onto him.

Feeling helpless, Yun Feng could only take a few glances and observe carefully. However, realizing it didn't suit his taste, he quickly made his exit.

As soon as he left the alley, he bumped into a chubby man with bright red hair, his eyes filled with lewd excitement as he gazed toward the alley's entrance.

The man sized Yun Feng up as he passed and asked in confusion, "Bro, you're so handsome, why are you even coming to a place like this? Not cool, man."

Yun Feng tugged at the corner of his mouth, wanting to explain, but upon seeing the traces of makeup still on his hand, he could only force an awkward smile.

"Accidentally wandered in, accidentally wandered in. You go ahead."

Upon seeing this red-haired man, Yun Feng had already guessed who he was.

If he wasn't mistaken, this was likely Ma Hongjun.

However, Yun Feng had no interest in meddling in Ma Hongjun's affairs. He was here for a completely different purpose: to gather suggestions and advice.

Despite wandering around for a whole day, he still hadn't found Tang San and Xiao Wu, which left him feeling a bit down.

He had inquired about it, and there were still two days left before enrollment began at Shrek Academy.

It's unlikely that Tang San would go early, Yun Feng thought. Besides, with Xiao Wu now free from their supposed sibling bond, she definitely wouldn't be listening to him anymore. At best, Tang San was just a friend to her.

Feeling a bit at a loss, Yun Feng bought some snacks and continued to explore.

This time, however, he had a specific destination in mind.

Before long, Yun Feng found a small, unremarkable shop in a corner of the city.

The storefront was modest, but its sign was quite unique.

The sign displayed a circular emblem with several special symbols engraved on it.

Most people might not understand the significance of these symbols, but Yun Feng did. They were the same markings as those of the Spirit Hall.

Specifically, the Seven Kill Sword, the Clear Sky Hammer, and the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon.

Seeing this, Yun Feng's eyes gleamed with excitement as an interesting idea popped into his head. However, he didn't plan to act on it just yet. Instead, he smiled and walked into the shop.

The door was open, and the interior appeared dimly lit. As soon as Yun Feng entered, a unique energy fluctuation caught his attention. This energy was similar to the fluctuations produced by the soul devices Yun Feng crafted, but weaker.

Soul devices contained soul power, and if they weren't bound to someone's soul power, they would leak it outward.

Most soul devices weren't designed for combat; they served simple auxiliary functions. Nevertheless, they were still incredibly rare.

All soul devices in existence were considered antiques, as the methods for creating them had long been lost.

But Yun Feng was a soul device maker himself, so how could he not be familiar with them?

His goal here was to see if he could identify any hidden treasures with his keen eye.

The shop had only one person inside, and there was no counter. The three walls were lined with items that looked old and worn, not at all like valuable treasures.

The sole occupant sat in a wooden rocking chair, eyes closed, swaying gently.

He appeared to be about fifty years old, his body robust despite his age. The sturdy-looking chair creaked under his weight as he rocked back and forth.

His face had distinctive features—his chin jutted forward, his cheekbones were wide, and his face was flat with a hooked nose. If one had to compare it to something, it would resemble the sole of a shoe.

Even with his eyes closed, he exuded a cunning aura.

He wore a pair of black-framed crystal glasses with rigid, square lenses, giving him an odd appearance.

Yun Feng's entrance didn't disturb him; he continued to breathe evenly, rocking back and forth in his chair.

Looking at this man, a phrase immediately popped into Yun Feng's mind:

"The King of Bootlickers!"
