Whispers In The Corridor.

Yi Cheng was on his way to A'Xue's room when his gaze was drawn to two silhouettes standing on the the lantern lit corridor. One was a woman clad in a green silk dress; she stood with her back towards Yi Cheng and her face hidden from his view. The other was a man; he was a stranger to Yi Cheng, but his attire — a green robe and a sword at his waist — marked him as one of Yi Cheng uncle's guards.

The two were whispering to each other; their words were too low for Yi Cheng to hear. The man nodded in agreement to something the woman said, then turned and slipped away. The woman watched him go until he was out of sight. Then she turned around. Her eyes widened in surprise as they saw them Yi Cheng's gaze.

Yi Cheng recognized her then: she was A'Xue's personal maid.

"They seem suspicious, whispering in dark corners," Yi Cheng's guard said from behind him. "Should I follow the man?" he asked.

Yi Cheng shook his head. "No need. They are both my uncle's people. Perhaps they are lovers, who like to meet in secret."

As they reached the corridor, the maid bowed low. "This humble servant greets Your Highness the Crown Prince."

Yi Cheng acknowledged her with a brief nod. "Is A'Xue awake?" he asked.

"Yes, Your Highness," she replied. "Miss has been restless and awaits Your Highness eagerly."

Yi Cheng nodded again and gestured for her to lead the way.
