Dalton's life takes a turn when he reconnects with Vanessa, a girl from his past who becomes the bright spot in his world. As they grow closer, Dalton navigates the challenges of love, family struggles, and his own insecurities. Through moments of joy and hardship, he learns that the journey to understanding himself is as important as the connections he forms. Beyond What Was is a powerful story of growth, self-discovery, and the enduring impact of those we let into our hearts.
The story is really thought out, I feel like it didn't dive into the character of Vanessa; it seems like the author could only fully speak on Dalton's emotions so I feel like it could've been possible to give it from the POV from Dalton's viewpoint and it would've been a better read.
W story really enjoyed this as a someone's first story it was great. A solid journey of struggles with self-discovery, the character of Dalton felt really human, he has his flaws and it feels like it showed throughout the story. All the homies lowkey hate Vanessa though.
