I smiled sadly; my mom was all the family I had. “Is it weird that I’m not crying?”, I asked. “No.”, Norah answered decisively. “You do what feels right for you and let no one tell you otherwise! I think you are already accepting that she is no longer with us. Mourning is a different process for all of us.” I nodded. She was right. Lily had a normal life, with a normal family, normal job and normal friends. Focused on her career, she made no time for boyfriends. Not that the right ones wanted her anyways... But after her mom's death she is stupified when she learns that she is now the proud owner of 2 houses in Europe and a million dollar trust fund. Freshly showered, we went to the kitchen where some of the others were sitting. My headache was now coming back full force, and I longed for a big cup of coffee. 


Immediately when I entered, Valeria handed me some coffee. And what’s worse, she laughed at me when I looked bewildered. 


“Well, I thought you would need it after yesterday.”, she explained while she shrugged. I was thankful for it, but her comment made me wary. The laugh coming from Ennio made it even worse. 


“What did I do?”, I asked softly to Matteo, even though I doubted whether I wanted to hear the answer. 


“Nothing to worry about, bellisima.”, he answered, and he handed me some toast. Matteo sat down at the table to have his breakfast. Ennio couldn’t hold his laughter anymore when Renzo entered the kitchen. I gasped when I took in his black eye and his broken nose.
