Lord of the Mysteries: The New Black Emperor

This was originally for my own enjoyment, but out of the kindness of my heart and definitely not anything else, I've graciously decided to post 1 chapter a day on Webnovel :)

I’ve currently read up to chapter 100, and now I decided to stack. First off, the dedication the author put into this novel is insane. I’m pretty sure they update a chapter per day, and even if it’s less, 68 chapters came out when most of my other novels only got like 10. While quite similar to other fanfics, the MC has a pretty interesting golden finger, and I enjoy reading about the lawyer pathway. I’d say the one “negative” aspect of this story is that it is a bit slow paced. This is purely my preference towards fan fics, since many times they don’t need to be drawn out. The author does do an amazing job in these chapters, which could definitely make the pace worth it. That being said, anyone who enjoys a “slower” novel that has an amazing plot and depth would love this. (I get that LOTM and other peak novels are just as “slow” in terms of lacing, but the only reason i brought this up is because this is a fan fic). If the author wants to write this like an actual story, theyre doing a great job. Sorry for the long reveiw.

I did read up to 437. Over all story is good. But small details make it less in tone of LOM. I give an example as I read two stories simultaneously I can compare, in one MC created himself false identity for tarot club, because of certain circumstances he can't be seen by Klein. So he every time carefully think what and when he can speak and what reasonable knowledge for his created identity he can share with tarot club to not raise suspicions. His actions measured, detailed and carefully planned for steps steps ahead and consequences of his actions. This story? MC don't tried too hard to hide his identity and tarot members don't debout him nor they are curious of to where he got his very ADVANCED knowledge caps here for a reason. Main character sharing his knowledge without seconds thought, only on real key things that can actually kill tarot members he does filter, but over all zero trying to cover up. And none doubts from tarot members and outside world easley buy almost all his excuses. Now, characters themselves outside of some paranoia are written good. There is romance, but very very timid. Then MC himself, when it doesn't matter he acts okay, smart even. But at some plot moments you can almost actually see scenario log where author writes AUTHORS WILL MC -100 intelligence debuff. Same thing for characters when it's convenient to the plot they suddenly lost wisdom and intelligence. I read it avidly, but because quality is good, plot holes and characters stupidity look out of place and really spoils story for me.

Epic!!!, more and more chapters please....

Only problem with this novel is the way everyone appears dumb. For example how come no one questioned where his knowledge come from sure he may be a follower of the “creator” but still. No how you know this why should I trust you just take his knowledge like it’s natural regardless of his low sequence lvl and their trust in the mc ruined the whole vibe LOTM provides such as caution Some stupid decision here and there but main problem is just taking mc word as if it’s natural. Novel is better than most but it’s still lacking in a way.

For a translated chinese fan fic, it's pretty top notch. Yes, it has a ton of issues with pronouns being mixed up, as well as names, sequence titles, and nouns in general. But it's not enough to ruin the quality. You just need to gloss over it. Otherwise, the translation is easy to read. The world building and story is largely consistent with canon, with some deviation due to coming out before COI. But even with that in mind, the author obviously loves the setting and injected a lot of creativity into the story. It's not just a retelling of LoTM with a new character inserted in, but a genuinely new story. Got to give props here. The biggest issue, however, is the chinese glazing that starts to take over the story maybe half way through. I swear to god, I feel like, literally, 40% of the story, at a certain point is just the MC jerking himself and his chinese communist, great red state, ideology, off as everyone nods their heads as how amazing his philosophy, sociology and state management is. It seriously gets hard to push through at points. From a non-chinese POV, it's super cringe, try-hard and awkward to read how Hobert implements his superior chinese beliefs and systems into the LoTM world as everyone either creams themselves or just utterly fails to understand it due to their selfish, evil, stupid, western outlook. So, ultimately definitely worth reading if you want to explore the LoTM world can get look past the good-for-translation-but-not-really-great grammer, and the every increasing chinese glazing.

This is surprisingly good by webnovel standards—definitely a cut above the usual fare.

Better than I expected. Enjoying so far so good Let’s see what the future holds I am not sure whether the original fanfic has been finished or how manay chapters are there now. It would be good to know.
