Amelia, overwhelmed by Nerissa's rapid-fire speech and the sudden influx of people, could only manage a simple, "OK, thank you!" The flurry of preparations around her nearly drowned out her voice.
Nerissa's face fell. "OK, thank you. That's it? Amelia! You! How could you be so heartless? Hmph!" She stomped her foot, turning away dramatically to return the gowns to the rack. Her expression was akin to that of a child who had just been scolded, lips pouting and eyes glistening with unshed tears.
Knowing her friend's character well, Amelia quickly coaxed her, "The gowns are all beautiful. I love all of them. Thank you for your hard work; I truly appreciate it. Why don't you choose which color I should wear tonight? You know better than I do."
