Chapter 149: New Beginnings
Two months later, Alyssa found herself back in action. The brief peace after Adrienne's fall had given her time to recuperate, but the world was moving too quickly to let her rest. The global instability Adrienne had triggered wasn't fully undone, and governments across the world were working overtime to prevent further fallout.
The team had grown closer than ever, their bonds forged in the fires of combat and survival. Eleanor had taken on a more prominent leadership role, organizing intelligence on rogue cells that had once worked under Adrienne's regime. Evelyn's sharp intellect was indispensable in helping to navigate the convoluted web of remaining threats, while Marcus coordinated field operations.
One evening, Evelyn walked into the team's headquarters, a frown creasing her usually calm expression. "Alyssa, we've got a problem. I've been running scans on Adrienne's old digital networks. There's chatter something big is about to go down."
Alyssa stood up, tension rippling through her. "What kind of chatter?"
"They're calling it 'The Shroud.' No clear details yet, but from what I can gather, it's linked to one of the more secretive branches Adrienne kept hidden, even from her most trusted allies. Whoever's behind it has resources we didn't account for."
Alyssa's eyes narrowed. "How long until it hits?"
"Best guess? A few days. Maybe sooner."
Alyssa exhaled, her mind racing. "Alert the others. We're going dark until we know more."
