Chapter 142: The Reckoning

Alyssa and Eleanor burst into the open air, the cold mountain wind hitting their faces. Behind them, the hidden facility was collapsing, a plume of smoke rising into the sky. But there was no time to celebrate.

Marcus's voice came over their earpieces. "You're not going to like this. The satellites they've launched something. We're still trying to figure out what it is, but it's bad. Real bad."

Alyssa cursed under her breath. "Can you shut them down remotely?"

"We're trying, but The Shroud's encryption is beyond anything we've ever seen. We're working on it."

Eleanor glanced at the sky, her expression dark. "They might have failed here, but they've already set their plan in motion."

Alyssa's mind raced. "Then we take the fight to them. If The Shroud is a network, we have to find its core. Every network has a center."

Marcus came back on the comm. "We might have a lead on that. Get back to base, and we'll regroup."

Alyssa's eyes narrowed as she looked out over the horizon. The battle was far from over, but one thing was clear this was no longer a fight to stop an organization. This was a fight for the future.
