The two walked out of the villa and got into Natasha Romanoff's car.
Even after she sat in the driver's seat, Natasha's head was still buzzing, and she couldn't quite process everything. She took a few deep breaths to calm herself before starting the car.
A brief silence filled the air, which Natasha broke: "You can actually control time. Can you manipulate time for the entire Earth?"
Luo Bai didn't answer that question directly. Instead, he said, "I'm surprised you waited for me all day. I thought you were here on a mission."
It was clear from his tone that he didn't want to delve deeper into the topic.
Natasha didn't push further but replied, "It seems you guessed correctly. Nick Fury did ask me to persuade you to join the Avengers, but I figured you wouldn't agree, so I'm really here just to see you."
Her interest in mages was genuine. "To be honest, I think you're incredibly powerful."
Natasha was smart. She recognized what Luo Bai was avoiding, so she complimented him right away. Knowing that most boys enjoyed hearing praise, she was sincere in her words.
"If you don't mind, maybe we can be friends," Natasha continued.
Luo Bai wouldn't refuse such a simple request, but he reminded her, "Of course I don't mind, but I won't make any exceptions for friends."
Natasha nodded in understanding. "Don't worry, I won't trouble you too much. Maybe we can occasionally grab a meal or have some coffee."
"If I have time," Luo Bai replied with a smile.
Natasha smiled back and said nothing more.
After a brief pause, she suddenly asked, "Do mages have any opponents?"
Luo Bai was puzzled. "Why do you ask that?"
"I'm just curious. You're so powerful—you can change time and control people's souls. Do mages like you really have any opponents?" Natasha inquired.
"Of course there will be," Luo Bai answered.
"I heard you mention the Sorcerer Supreme to Stark before, the most powerful mage on Earth. Does the Sorcerer Supreme also have opponents?" Natasha continued.
Luo Bai smiled and replied, "Of course, this universe is bigger than you think."
Natasha's expression grew serious. She wasn't asking just for information; she was genuinely concerned.
She had always known that Earth was unsafe, and the dangers it faced were far more terrifying than anyone imagined. The thought of powerful beings on Earth that couldn't be subdued worried her. If Luo Bai was already so powerful, what about the Sorcerer Supreme who was even stronger?
But even the Sorcerer Supreme would have opponents. Natasha shuddered to think of the kind of powerful and terrifying enemies mages might face.
"I'm not asking you for information; I'm just worried about humanity and Earth," Natasha quickly clarified.
"I understand. But you don't need to worry about it because worrying won't help," Luo Bai replied straightforwardly.
This wasn't mockery; it was a fact. With S.H.I.E.L.D.'s strength, what was the point of worrying? Could they really deal with Domu and those dark mages?
Luo Bai felt he should be more worried than Natasha. The Ancient One had given him the Time Stone, clearly intending for him to become the Sorcerer Supreme. Shouldn't the Sorcerer Supreme be able to handle those dark mages in Dormammu's realm?
"To be honest, I've always known that Earth is dangerous. But it wasn't until I met you that I realized the situation might be even more dire than I thought. Although I haven't seen those terrible enemies myself, your description makes me believe that S.H.I.E.L.D. can't resolve the universal crisis."
"I understand why you might be reluctant to join the Avengers. What you mages face could be beyond human comprehension."
"I really admire you, and I'm very grateful to all the mages who have always protected Earth and humanity."
"But I still want to ask—can you deal with those terrifying beings?"
Natasha's tone was sincere, like an old friend caring for you, asking, "Can you truly overcome those challenges? Do you need my help?"
Though this old friend might not be able to provide real assistance, her emotional support was valuable. However, Luo Bai didn't really need that.
"Of course, no problem. After all, I'm a man favored by the goddess of luck," Luo Bai replied half-jokingly.
Natasha was taken aback. She thought he was joking and replied in kind, "Then I hope the goddess of good luck will always watch over you and keep things smooth for you!"
"I think it should be possible," Luo Bai said with a smile.
Their conversation came to an abrupt end when they arrived at the restaurant.
Actually, it was more accurate to say they arrived at a hotel.
"???"
Luo Bai was puzzled. Why had they gone to a hotel instead of eating as promised?
Just as he wondered, Natasha explained, "There's a restaurant on the top floor of this hotel. It's usually open 24 hours, and the food is quite good. It's hard to find a restaurant that suits your taste at this hour, so I thought I'd bring you here. Want to give it a try?"
Her reasoning was sound, so Luo Bai didn't argue. "Then let's try it."
They took the elevator and soon reached the top-floor restaurant.
The place wasn't crowded, and the atmosphere was pleasant.
They found a sofa to sit on, but as soon as Luo Bai settled down, he noticed something was off.
A book lay quietly on the sofa. It looked very worn, with several red letters printed on the cover. Strangely, these red letters seemed ominous and particularly glaring.
As a mage, Luo Bai quickly noticed a faint black aura surrounding the book. Although he couldn't decipher the meaning of the letters, he sensed something was off about it.
It resembled a magic book, but not one of the types he was accustomed to; it felt more like... a black magic book.
Luo Bai had a vague suspicion, so he picked up the book and opened it.
To his shock, he was right.
Damn!!
This was indeed a black magic book!!
And it was a long-lost divine tome—the Dark Divine Book!
How did Luo Bai know?
All he could say was that something felt strange as he turned the first page. He found a row of words written in Chinese: "Congratulations to you, lucky individual! By acquiring this book, you already possess supreme abilities, for its name is the Book of Darkness!"
