Chapter 047 Is It So Sudden?!

Luo Bai was a little confused.

The plot had just reached the point where the Ancient One was planning to retire, which left him quite speechless. However, upon reflection, he realized that the plot had indeed sped up significantly since his arrival. He had been practicing magic before and hadn't paid much attention to the passage of time.

In this light, the Ancient One was right. His arrival had undeniably changed the entire Marvel universe. This was only natural; after all, he was a time traveler, so it would be strange if he didn't cause any changes.

It was just that the Ancient One's retirement felt too sudden.

Thinking about this, Luo Bai bluntly asked, "Supreme Mage, are you really unable to hold on any longer?"

"..."

The Ancient One was silent, but her expression told Luo Bai everything. She truly couldn't survive much longer; she was going to die soon.

Although they hadn't interacted much, there was still some affection between them. Without the support of the Ancient One, Luo Bai wouldn't have progressed so rapidly in such a short period. So, from the bottom of his heart, he was very grateful to her.

However, now that the Ancient One said she was going to die soon, Luo Bai couldn't help but feel a bit skeptical. After all, the Ancient One was the Supreme Mage. How could she die so easily?

All mages have souls, and the Ancient One's soul had long since followed the Eternal Emperor. She had only died physically; her soul still existed. To put it bluntly, she was simply retiring.

Of course, it wouldn't be easy to see her in the future. After all, he would have to go to the Eternal Emperor to find her, and that would likely require some training on his part.

"Death gives life meaning and reminds you that life is extremely short and there isn't much left. But I believe, Master Luo Bai, that you will do better than I have," the Ancient One said suddenly, interrupting his thoughts.

Luo Bai came back to his senses and couldn't help but sigh. He asked, "Supreme Mage, how long can you last? I need to be mentally prepared."

It would be nice if she could hold on for a few more days, allowing him to absorb more power from the multiverse. Luo Bai thought this to himself.

But the next second, he heard the Ancient One reply, "Now."

"..."

One moment she told him she was leaving, and the next moment she was gone??

"Is it really that sudden?!" Luo Bai couldn't help but exclaim.

The Ancient One shook her head and replied, "It's not sudden; everything has its signs. It was inevitable that I would appear here and meet you today."

In fact, the reason the Ancient One was going on a soul journey tonight was that she felt the call of the Eternal Emperor. Initially, she found it strange; after all, since she had decided to follow the Eternal Emperor, he had hardly summoned her. Counting this as the second time, a full century had passed since the last.

The sudden call from the Eternal Emperor puzzled the Ancient One, but she had to answer. When she saw Luo Bai, she finally understood why the Eternal Emperor had summoned her—it was time for her to leave the Earth.

She had lived on Earth for a long time and was genuinely reluctant to leave now. But she had no choice.

"Alright, Master Luo Bai, I'm leaving. Congratulations on becoming the new generation of Supreme Mage," the Ancient One expressed her congratulations to Luo Bai in her final moments.

Luo Bai replied, "Thank you, former Supreme Mage. It was nice to meet you, Ancient One."

But before he could finish his words, the Ancient One's soul disappeared.

He wondered if the Ancient One had heard him.

Looking at the colorful universe, Luo Bai felt a sudden emptiness in his heart. Although with his current abilities and lucky perks, he could still stand alone without the Ancient One, she had been there for him when he was at his weakest and had helped him the most.

It felt like losing a friend—when someone suddenly leaves, disappointment is inevitable.

However, Luo Bai quickly adjusted his mindset and continued to train his soul. This time, though, he didn't practice for long. After all, the Ancient One had "died" so suddenly, and he felt he must go to Kama Taj to check on things.

With this thought in mind, it didn't take long for Luo Bai to return his soul to his body.

As soon as he regained his soul, Luo Bai sensed noise—a conversation happening downstairs.

"I must see Master Luo Bai; this is very important!"

"You really can't go up to the second floor!"

"I'm sorry, but I can only do this!"

As the voices faded, the argument stopped.

Luo Bai frowned, stood up, and opened the door.

As soon as he opened the door, he saw a strange face—a middle-aged man.

Before Luo Bai could speak, the visitor introduced himself, "Hello, Master Supreme. My name is Wang. You must go back. The Ancient One is no longer here."

Wang was the Archmage of Kama Taj and also the "steward" of the Supreme Mage. The distinction was important because, unlike Modu, Wang came from an ancient family that had served the Supreme Mage since meeting the Ancient One. Thus, it was not an exaggeration to call him the "steward" of the Supreme Mage.

Now that Wang was referring to Luo Bai as "Supreme Mage," it seemed the Ancient One had long recognized that she was running out of time and had explained some situations to him. At the very least, she had informed Wang that Luo Bai was now the Supreme Mage.

"I understand. I'm planning to go back. But where did you take Polaris?" Luo Bai asked.

Although he had only heard snippets of the conversation, it was easy to deduce from the dialogue and the current situation that Wang had probably taken Polaris away.

Sure enough, after he asked this question, Wang replied with some embarrassment, "I'm sorry, Supreme Mage. The situation was urgent just now, and she kept refusing to let me come here, so I had to take special measures."

Wang then opened a portal with his mind.

The moment the door opened, Polaris fell out. Fortunately, Luo Bai caught her quickly with his reflexes.

However, it was obvious she was still a little dazed when she emerged.

"I was in free fall just now...!!!!" Polaris exclaimed in shock.

Luo Bai nodded, understanding her reaction. "I get it."

Only then did Polaris finally come to her senses.

"Master Luo Bai??!! I tried my best to stop him just now! But this person insisted on coming to the second floor! He made me free-fall for two minutes!" Polaris said angrily, clearly furious.

Luo Bai quickly reassured her, "That's too much. Wang, I think you should apologize to her. After all, I told her not to let anyone disturb me."

"Sorry, the situation was urgent just now," Wang said, quickly apologizing.

Though Polaris was still a bit angry, she found it hard to say anything further. It was clear that Wang was a mage, and she couldn't defeat him. Besides, he seemed to know Master Luo Bai.

With this in mind, Polaris waved her hands helplessly and said, "Master Luo Bai, is there anything else you need me to do?"

"Not yet, but I may have to leave for a while," Luo Bai replied.

Polaris looked surprised but didn't ask any more questions. Instead, she simply responded, "Okay, I'll take care of things at home during this time."

Luo Bai nodded, then opened a portal with his mind.

When Wang saw this, he was astonished. "Did you just use your mind to open the portal??"

"Is that unusual? Didn't you just use your mind to open it?" Luo Bai countered.

Wang's eyes widened as he replied earnestly, "I've studied magic for most of my life! As far as I know, you haven't been studying magic for long."

Luo Bai responded, "But I have great talent."
