Loki was furious.
Seventy minutes. Nearly seventy minutes of free fall!
Do you know how he survived that?
The more Loki thought about it, the angrier he became. He got up from the ground, glaring at Luo Bai. "You think you're so powerful? Are you really the Sorcerer Supreme? You're nothing but a second-rate, amateur mage!"
Furious, Loki clenched his swords and charged at Luo Bai, his attacks ferocious. But Luo Bai closed his eyes, and in the next moment, the mirror dimension opened.
As the dimension expanded, the surroundings transformed instantly. The once-grounded villa was now suspended 10,000 meters in the sky. Everyone stood on floating stone platforms, while the surrounding buildings rotated in spirals, creating a scene both majestic and surreal.
Before Loki could even get close, Luo Bai moved the stone platform beneath him. It vanished.
"Ahhhhh!!!"
Loki let out a wail as he plummeted through the air, face-first from 10,000 meters.
He fell fast, like being on the world's most terrifying drop ride. In just a few seconds, he was about to smash into the ground.
Luckily, at the very last moment, he stopped.
But he wasn't on the ground. Instead, Loki hovered face-down in midair, suspended at the height where he started. In front of him stood Luo Bai.
"Are you ready to calm down now, Loki?" Luo Bai asked with a raised eyebrow.
Loki had just been locked in a portal, falling freely for 70 minutes. Now, he'd experienced another near-death fall from 10,000 meters. How could he calm down?
"Is that all you've got?!" Loki roared.
"Alright," Luo Bai sighed, "Maybe I was too soft on you."
He closed his eyes, and Loki was suddenly launched into another round of endless free-fall. Over and over again, he plummeted from the sky, only to stop just before hitting the ground, then be flung back up to start the process all over again.
After almost ten rounds of this, the Avengers could only watch, wide-eyed. Loki appeared and disappeared in flashes, each time accompanied by his screams: "Aah! Sh— Ahhhhhh!!!"
To be honest, it wasn't clear if Loki was more scared or just enraged. But the people watching were definitely uneasy.
"I went on a drop ride once when I was young," Polaris said, "But I've never seen a ride that high! If I did that a few more times, I'd probably have a heart attack."
Nick Fury couldn't help but ask Thor, "Thor, is he really your brother? You seem way too happy right now."
Thor was watching with obvious amusement, not making any move to help. "We're cousins, actually. He's adopted," Thor said cheerfully, unable to hide his grin.
"Wait—so since you're not real brothers, you're just gonna let this happen?" Natasha Romanoff asked.
"You don't understand," Thor replied, "He's always tried to kill me! When we were eight, he turned into a snake because I love snakes. I picked it up, and then he changed back and stabbed me. That wasn't the only time."
The Avengers were stunned.
"Wow, okay. No wonder you're enjoying this," Dr. Banner said, sounding genuinely shocked.
Suddenly, Loki's shout cut through the air: "Thor!!! Help me!!!"
"Yeah, yeah, in a minute!" Thor called back. Then he continued chatting with the Avengers, laughing. "Honestly, I wish this could last longer. I've never seen him like this—I kinda want to record it."
Tony, always ready with a tech solution, said eagerly, "Do you need help? I can record it using my suit."
"That would be great!" Thor replied, even more excited. He shouted down at Loki, "Loki! Smile for the camera!"
Loki, still tumbling, shouted furiously, "Thor!!! You!!!"
Thor, knowing that Luo Bai wasn't actually trying to kill Loki, relaxed. He figured it was all in good fun.
But despite the humor, Thor was curious about Luo Bai. He glanced around at the mirror dimension's surreal landscape, then finally turned his attention to Luo Bai.
"So, are there really wizards on Earth now?" Thor asked.
"The proper term is 'sorcerer,'" Luo Bai corrected.
"Alright, sorcerer," Thor continued, "My brother said you took the Tesseract from him. I need to take it back to Asgard. It's too dangerous to leave on Earth."
Luo Bai, unsurprised, responded calmly, "I know why you're here, Thor, son of Odin, God of Thunder. But you'll have to wait for now."
He then turned to Nick Fury.
"And you, Nick Fury. You're also here for the Tesseract, aren't you?"
Nick Fury blinked, caught off guard. His expression shifted nervously. Knowing the chances of getting the Tesseract back were slim, he quickly said, "Yes, but only because I'm worried that Loki might use it to harm the Earth. I don't have any other motives."
Luo Bai smiled faintly, then asked, "You're not trying to create weapons of mass destruction with it, are you?"
Nick Fury shook his head quickly. "Of course not!"
Luo Bai didn't respond. Instead, he pulled out the scepter—the one with the Mind Stone embedded in it.
The Mind Stone, as its name suggests, can manipulate thoughts, control consciousness, and reveal hidden truths.
Nick Fury, skilled at keeping secrets, would never admit the full truth on his own. So, Luo Bai used the scepter.
As its light flickered, Nick Fury suddenly began to speak, unable to control himself. "It's not just Loki. The Earth is full of dangers—mystical threats, Asgardians, alien forces. If powerful beings like you decide to destroy the Earth, what do we do? S.H.I.E.L.D needs weapons that can stop you!"
The Avengers were stunned into silence. Even Nick Fury seemed shocked that he'd said those words.
"I..." Nick Fury stammered, realizing he'd spilled everything in front of Luo Bai. He stood speechless, unable to comprehend what had just happened.
Seeing the looks on everyone's faces, Fury knew there was no point in hiding anymore. He sighed and continued, "Luo Bai, think about it from my perspective. I don't have the power that you do. I have to worry about people like you destroying the planet. As the director of S.H.I.E.L.D, is it wrong for me to want to protect humanity?"
Luo Bai's gaze remained steady. "You admit you don't have enough power, yet you want to play with forces beyond your control? What if those weapons you create to protect Earth are turned against you? What if they're used to attack Earth?"
Tony nodded in agreement. "That's exactly why I shut down Stark Industries' weapons division."
Nick Fury opened his mouth to argue but was cut off by Luo Bai. "Nick Fury, you question and fear sorcerers, but you have no idea what we deal with. You've made your distrust clear, and now you'll face the consequences."
With that, Luo Bai opened a portal and, before Fury could react, teleported him away.
The room fell into stunned silence.
"Where did Nick Fury go?" Natasha asked cautiously.
"I sent him to experience a sorcerer's life firsthand. I'm sure he'll enjoy facing the enemies we deal with every day," Luo Bai said nonchalantly.
"The enemies of sorcerers...?" Natasha trailed off, eyes wide. "Will he... will he make it back?"
Luo Bai thought for a moment. "Depends on his luck."
For thousands of years, Earth's sorcerers, led by the Ancient One, had fought against dark forces to protect the world, often sacrificing their lives. Yet, despite their efforts, Nick Fury had questioned them and tried to build weapons to suppress their power.
Luo Bai couldn't tolerate that, so he'd sent Fury to face the very darkness the sorcerers had been fighting.
Turning to Thor, Luo Bai said, "Alright, Thor. Let's discuss your brother."
He snapped his fingers, and Loki appeared once again, crashing face-first into the ground in front of them.
"Thor!!! You said you'd help me!! But I just experienced nearly forty more minutes of free fall!!!" Loki roared, utterly furious.
Thor grinned. "I get it, Loki. But things are a bit complicated right now. I need to get the Tesseract back before we deal with you."
Loki: "THOR!!!"
