Part 31: The Calmness Of A Boring Class

After discussing the plan and eating our lunch, we went back to the secondary building and headed back to our own classrooms. I'm not the best when it comes to explaining things, but I was expecting them to at least partially understand it. But their furrowed brows and uncertain facial expressions made me think that they didn't get anything. Well, I guess it's also for the best that they don't understand it completely. Afterall, it's not the most easy-to-digest plan, but I am ninety percent confident that it will work.

"Hey, were you really being serious about what you said earlier?"

Asamura asks me. We got back to the classroom with around eight more minutes to spare, so there's still some time left before the teacher arrives and we have to go back to our seats.

"Yeah, I was pretty serious. Did I not explain things well enough?"

"No, I got everything. I think. But… What you want to do doesn't feel right."

"I told you, it's not that I want to do it. But it's the only option."

Asamura stares in confusion, not knowing what to say. What I just said isn't technically true. There are a lot of other things we could do to potentially put a stop to Miyoko's bullying. But nearly all of those would get the teachers and other people involved. I don't want to get myself involved any more than I already am. Afterall, it'll greatly disrupt the peaceful school life I've been living out so far.

But of course, if I were to tell all of this to Asamura, she would most likely choke me to death. Although, leaving her hanging like this wouldn't exactly end well either. I guess I should give her a bit of reassurance.

"Anyway, you don't have to worry too much. If anything should happen or if the plan fails, I still have a backup plan."

"Really? Then, why didn't you tell us about that earlier?"

"There wasn't enough time to explain it. We only have an hour for lunch, and I was too busy swallowing bits of my sandwich."

"Hmm… Yeah, I suppose that's true. Then, just tell me what your backup plan is after school, okay?"

I give a slight nod to answer her question. Feeling a bit more satisfied, Asamura smiles and waves a quick bye at me before walking back to her seat. Looks like I need to come up with a backup plan before afternoon classes end. This is becoming more of a bother than I would have liked.

This is why I don't like working with others. Whenever you think of something, it's not enough that you think it's a great idea. You also have to convince the people you're with that it's a great idea. But then again, it's not like I don't understand why she's so unsure about the plan.

Afterall, the success or failure of this plan hinges on whether or not Suzuki, the ace baseball player that Kurebayashi injured, will agree to us spreading a rumor about him confessing to someone and having him play along for authenticity.

I don't know what kind of person he is, so I can't say for sure if he'll be okay with it. But going by what Kurebayashi said and how he's chill about her giving him a slight concussion, he's probably a nice guy who will help in any way he can once he hears what's been happening to Kurebayashi.

My train of thought is interrupted by the entrance of the teacher into the classroom. On cue, every one of us stands and bows before sitting back down. Guess that's the end of my mulling. Not that it did me any good anyway. All that's left to do is to get through today's remaining classes and meet up with Suzuki after school.

Still, I was surprised to know that Sakakibara Daiki had Suzuki's number. And even more shocked when Asamura casually called Sakakibara Dauki during lunch earlier and had him set up a meeting between us and Suzuki.

"Why did he say yes to such a request? What's up with him?"

I mumble to myself as I listen to the teacher prattle on about chemical reactions. I'm suspicious about why Sakakibara Daiki decided to do this favor with no questions asked, but I can't deny that he made things a lot easier.

I guess I'll just worry about that if and when it becomes a problem.
