The Aftermath and Awakening
The silence in the base was thick, weighted by exhaustion and the lingering darkness of the night's events. Valen moved among his allies, who were catching their breath, tending to their wounds, and assessing the casualties. The Grand Assembly Hall had become a battlefield, and the eerie remnants of that clash still clung to them.
In the dim light, Aylara and Lian helped Kael as he leaned against the wall, clutching his side, blood seeping through his shirt. A few other students, faces pale and drawn, crowded around, doing what they could to assist the injured.
Valen's mind was still haunted by the spectral figures that had emerged from the rift. Whatever power the Black Vow had been trying to harness, it had awakened something even darker, a force that had been dormant within the academy until now.
"We did it," Kael murmured, his voice shaky but resolute. "But it didn't feel like a victory."
