Luffy darted across the battlefield, his body a whirlwind of motion, stretching and snapping back with the fluidity of Gear 5. The clash with Aokiji had drained some of his stamina, but the fire in his heart burned stronger than ever. Ace was close—he could feel it. But even with his heightened observation haki, Marineford was a warzone of chaos, and the battles surrounding him made every step forward a challenge.
As he landed from another jump, the ground beneath him trembled. Luffy froze for a moment, sensing an overwhelming presence approaching. A shadow loomed over him, and he didn't need to look up to know who it was.
Whitebeard.
The legendary pirate was a towering figure, his massive form dwarfing everyone around him. His bisento rested on his shoulder, its size matching his imposing presence. Even in the heat of battle, Whitebeard's mere presence demanded attention. His conqueror's haki radiated like a tidal wave, sending shockwaves through the battlefield, causing even veteran warriors to stagger.
Luffy's eyes widened as he finally came face-to-face with the man known as the "Strongest in the World." Whitebeard's eyes locked onto Luffy, and for a moment, the world seemed to stand still.
"So, you're the one making all this noise, huh? Straw Hat Luffy," Whitebeard's deep voice rumbled, filled with both curiosity and amusement. His gaze flickered over Luffy's distorted form, clearly recognizing the unfamiliar power coursing through him. "You've got something different about you, boy."
Luffy, still panting from the exertion of Gear 5, wiped the sweat from his brow. His hair fluttered slightly, and his body still rippled with chaotic energy. "I… I'm here to save Ace!" he declared, his voice filled with determination. "And no one's going to stop me!"
Whitebeard's eyes softened for a moment at the mention of Ace. His expression, normally stern and unyielding, revealed a brief flicker of emotion. Ace was one of his sons, and despite the chaos, Whitebeard knew what was at stake.
"I see." Whitebeard's grip tightened around his bisento, and the ground beneath him cracked slightly from the pressure of his sheer strength. "I owe you thanks, boy, for coming this far to save Ace. But the battlefield isn't that simple."
Luffy blinked, confused by Whitebeard's words. His advanced observation haki picked up movement from the Marines surrounding them. Admirals, vice-admirals, and soldiers were closing in, determined to either capture or kill anyone in their way.
"I know you want to save him," Whitebeard continued, his voice dropping to a lower tone. "But if you're not careful, this war could take your life before you even reach him."
Luffy's eyes narrowed, his fist tightening. "I don't care! I'm not leaving without Ace! I don't care what happens to me!"
Whitebeard let out a booming laugh, the sound echoing across the battlefield. The laughter caught the attention of both pirates and Marines alike. Even amidst the chaos of war, Whitebeard's laughter was something no one could ignore.
"You've got guts, I'll give you that," Whitebeard said, his tone turning serious once more. "But guts alone won't save your brother. If you want to stand in this war, you'll need more than just courage."
Luffy gritted his teeth. He knew Whitebeard was right, but he couldn't waste time on speeches. "I don't need anything else! I've got Gear 5, and I'm gonna use it to take down anyone who gets in my way!"
Without warning, the ground beneath them shook violently. Marines scrambled as a massive tremor split the battlefield, and Luffy's eyes widened in surprise. Whitebeard, without even moving, had unleashed one of his most powerful abilities: the Gura Gura no Mi. The air itself cracked like glass around him, and the sky seemed to tremble in response.
Luffy could feel the overwhelming force of Whitebeard's power. It wasn't just strength—it was raw, unrestrained destruction. Whitebeard could tear Marineford apart if he wanted to.
But the old pirate turned to Luffy, his eyes sharp. "You've got power, Straw Hat. But power alone won't win wars. You need to understand how to control it."
Luffy, still trembling from the quake, clenched his fists. "I don't care about that! I just need to save Ace!"
Before Whitebeard could respond, a massive blast of magma erupted from the ground nearby, causing both of them to turn. Admiral Akainu had arrived, his body radiating heat, his face twisted in a vicious scowl. Lava dripped from his fists as he stomped toward them.
"Whitebeard," Akainu sneered, his voice filled with venom. "Straw Hat Luffy. Neither of you is leaving here alive."
Luffy's eyes flashed with rage, and without a second thought, he shot forward. His body twisted in midair, his fist coated in advanced armament haki as it expanded to an enormous size. "I don't have time for you!"
But as Luffy's fist shot toward Akainu, the admiral responded in kind, his own arm transforming into a massive fist of molten rock. The two attacks collided with a deafening explosion, sending a shockwave across the battlefield. Luffy grunted, feeling the intense heat of Akainu's magma pushing against his haki.
Akainu's eyes narrowed, his molten fist pressing harder against Luffy's attack. "You think your haki is enough to stop me, Straw Hat? You'll burn like the rest!"
Luffy could feel the heat intensifying, but he refused to back down. He gritted his teeth, forcing more of his advanced haki into his attack. His arm trembled as Gear 5's chaotic energy surged through him, his rubbery skin twisting and expanding.
But even as he fought, Whitebeard stepped forward, his massive frame casting a shadow over both Luffy and Akainu. With one swift motion, Whitebeard swung his bisento toward Akainu, the force of the attack creating another massive quake.
Akainu's eyes widened in shock, and he was forced to abandon his clash with Luffy to block Whitebeard's strike. The admiral barely managed to avoid the full brunt of the attack, but the ground beneath him shattered, and he was sent flying back.
Whitebeard turned to Luffy, his expression stern. "This is my battlefield, Straw Hat. If you're going to save Ace, then do it. But don't think you can take on the Marines alone."
Luffy, panting and still in Gear 5, stared up at Whitebeard. The old man was right, but the fire in Luffy's heart refused to die down. "I'm not backing down," Luffy said through gritted teeth. "I'll fight whoever I have to."
Whitebeard grinned, his massive hand resting on his bisento. "Good. Then fight by my side."
Luffy nodded, his body still crackling with Gear 5's power. Ace was just ahead, and together, with Whitebeard's help, he would reach his brother.
But the war had only just begun.
