The first timeout ended.
On the Western side:
Harden replaced Kobe, Westbrook replaced Durant, and Paul replaced Wade Dong, leaving only Curry and LeBron on the court from the starting lineup.
On the Eastern side:
Wall replaced Wade, Horford replaced Bosh, and Butler replaced Millsap, leaving only Irving and Anthony on the court from the starting lineup.
Audience: (╥╯^╰╥)
What's going on? Why did Wade Dong disappear after an official timeout?
What kind of players are most loved by the audience during All-Star Weekend?
Players who dribble flashy, dunk explosively, and pass creatively are the most favored by fans. Wade Dong excels in all three aspects, so the audience was very unhappy to see him sitting on the bench watching the game with them.
However, Wade Dong wanted to chat with old Kobe, so the audience couldn't influence his decision.
....
After the timeout.
The Western All-Stars were on offense, and Westbrook was very eager to score.
He dribbled straight up the court, taking long strides to the basket, and slammed down a powerful dunk over Horford!
"Wow!!!"
This explosive dunk once again ignited the crowd!
After Durant and Harden left the Thunder, Westbrook had been leading the team alone. He showcased his leadership qualities by frequently achieving triple-doubles in games. If it weren't for Wade Dong's brilliance, fans would surely marvel at Westbrook's abilities.
However, some fans criticized Westbrook, calling him a stat padder!
At such times, Westbrook's fans would bring up Wade Dong to counterattack, claiming that if Westbrook achieved a quadruple-double once, they would stop calling him a stat padder.
Shortly after that, his critics were quickly silenced when he actually achieved a quadruple-double.
In a game against the Timberwolves, Westbrook played 43 minutes and recorded 37 points, 11 rebounds, 13 assists, and 10 turnovers for a quadruple-double.
23:21!!!
The Western All-Stars led by two points.
Then Wall scored a layup to tie the game once again.
With Wade Dong off the court, LeBron also lost his desire to score... After receiving the ball mid-range, he passed it back out to Curry at the three-point line.
"Swish!!!"
Curry raised his hand for a three-pointer; the basketball went through cleanly.
Next up was Irving with a three-pointer in response.
In yesterday's three-point contest, Irving was unexpectedly eliminated by Durant in the first round. Today Curry got started... so Irving had to show off as well.
A three-point shootout?!
The other players on the court recognized the momentum and directly gave possession to Curry and Irving.
This scenario would continue until one of them missed...
Curry dribbled up court with Irving defending him. He made several crossovers to create space for a shot before launching a three-pointer!
"Swish!!!"
The basketball went through again.
Then it was Irving's turn; he was also defended by Curry while everyone else spread out.
Irving first took a probing step forward with his right foot before performing an under-the-leg dribble with the same side foot. He pulled back to beyond the three-point line and shot.
"Swish!!!"
The basketball went through cleanly again.
The audience loved this exchange; players enjoyed it too. Even Kobe and Wade Dong stopped chatting and focused on watching the game.
Curry brought the ball up court again; he was just one step away from the three-point line when he launched another shot over Irving.
"Swish!!!"
The basketball went through once more.
This was Curry's third three-pointer; soon after, Irving also hit another three-pointer from just outside the arc.
Curry three...
Irving three...
Curry three...
Irving three...
"Sirius~! Sirius~! Sirius~! Sirius~! Sirius~! Sirius..."
With every three-pointer made, DJ's voice echoed "three," growing increasingly excited. At this rate, he might lose his voice...
Curry hit another three...
"G~~~"
Irving's sixth attempt bounced off the rim; Horford grabbed the offensive rebound and scored on a putback.
1 minute 57 seconds remaining.
Curry made six three-pointers while Irving made five; this three-point showcase had come to an end...
As Irving returned on defense, Curry stayed at midcourt to high-five him. "Buddy~ you still need to practice those threes."
"After winning the three-point contest, you're getting a bit carried away..."
Irving replied with a smile as they bantered back and forth.
Then Curry and LeBron also took a break. Westbrook's desire to score was strong as he began leading the Western All-Stars to extend their lead.
47:43!!!
The first quarter ended with the Western All-Stars leading by four points.
Wade Dong and Kobe were chatting happily on the sidelines with no intention of returning to play; however, the audience was not satisfied with this situation.
Seven minutes into the second quarter without seeing Wade Dong play caused audience emotions to finally boil over!
"Wade Dong!"
"Wade Dong!"
"Wade Dong!"
The crowd chanted together for Wade Dong.
Wade Dong wasn't like Kobe; since Kobe was injured and not playing was understandable. However, Wade Dong had never had any injuries in his career. He had been sidelined briefly due to injuries before but returned within minutes each time.
During All-Star Weekend... everyone spent so much money on tickets to see superstars play—not ordinary players.
"Brother Dong, look..."
Gentry felt somewhat troubled as well.
If this continued with fans shouting like this, even players on the court would be affected. They were putting in so much effort while fans were chanting for someone sitting on the bench.
"Alright!"
Wade Dong stood up from his seat and walked over to the scorer's table.
Seeing Wade Dong finally rise after chatting with Kobe for so long intensified audience cheers: "Wade Dong! Wade Dong! Wade Dong!"
At this point in time, besides Curry, Westbrook had performed best for the Western All-Stars.
If given enough playing time, Westbrook could very likely win All-Star Game MVP. However, Gentry didn't seem to understand this; since Wade Dong was coming in, he took Westbrook out as well.
Westbrook left looking displeased; he wasn't too happy about it.
Wade Dong didn't pay much attention to Westbrook's expression change. As soon as he entered the game and received a pass from Curry, he spun around to shake off Wall before delivering a bounce pass that landed perfectly in LeBron's hands.
"Swish!!!"
LeBron scored on a layup after receiving it.
"So this is what it feels like to be teammates with Brother Dong?"
LeBron is a top-tier player who has played alongside other elite point guards before.
He never imagined that there could be such a player in this world who could create scoring opportunities for you—whether facing you or turning away—regardless of how many defenders were between you two; he could always deliver you the ball in a way that felt most comfortable for you.
This is something even Paul couldn't provide LeBron with.
Originally thinking Paul was already one of history's top point guards; after just ten minutes of playing together with Wade Dong, LeBron changed his perspective internally.
Wade Dong is undoubtedly the greatest point guard in history!
