Nadia’s POV
The buzz of event planning was thick in the air, pulling me into a whirlwind of activity that barely left room for anything else—not even Mason's unsettling declarations. But amid all that chaos, my mother dropped a piece of news that felt more like a bombshell.
"We're expecting an addition to the family," she announced one evening, her tone a mix of bewilderment and reluctance.
I paused, the stack of promotional flyers in my hands feeling suddenly heavier. "What do you mean?"
She sighed, pouring herself a glass of water and then deciding against it. "Aiden and I—we’ve been talking about adopting for a while now. But today... well, the situation isn’t quite what they expected." Her words hung in the air, dense and ominous.
It wasn't until afternoon that I understood what she meant.
"Nadia, you need to see this." My mother's voice cut through the commotion of our living room with an alarming note.
