Matthew said nothing more, flipping lightly through the newspaper in his hand.
Soon the servants brought dinner.
The more time passes, the more Serena sits on the edge of her seat.
After tonight, it's freshman year!
She also ate carelessly until a piece of meat got stuck in her bowl and she tilted her head to meet Matthew's eyes.
She shuddered inwardly and squeezed her fork tightly.
"Serena, do you miss your grandmother?"
Matthew had just asked the question when he saw two fires ignite in the woman's eyes as she stared at him with resentment.
He frowned, not understanding where the resentment in her eyes came from.
He took out of his pocket a small pocket watch with pictures of Mary as a child, as a young man, and as an old man.
Each time the second hand moved, the picture in the pocket watch changed by one.
She watched in awe and slowly reached for the pocket watch.
She hadn't seen Mary as a child, and she hadn't even seen Mary as a young woman.
