Matthew walked quickly and Serena had just stepped out of her room when she saw that he was already downstairs.
"Matthew!!!"
She screamed, not even sure what was going on with the terror in her heart.
Matthew's footsteps finally stopped, his throat dry and tight, his heart pounding with stabbing pain.
Serena was relieved to see him stop and hurried downstairs.
Because she'd chased them out so quickly, she hadn't even worn shoes, and a piercing, seeping coldness came from the soles of her feet.
She came up behind him and grabbed him around the waist, the aggression she had been holding in all night spilling out at this point.
"I'm fine, take it easy."
Matthew's brow furrowed in hostility as he suddenly turned and pulled her forcefully into his arms.
Serena said nothing and rubbed against his chest, his cool scent soothing her immensely.
Suddenly, she was thrown across the room, her hands naturally wrapped around his neck.
"The floor is cool."
