Chapter 73

The explosion hit hard. The ground felt like it disappeared for a moment, sending me airborne before landing painfully against something unyielding. My ears rang, drowning out the shouts and gunfire that followed.

I forced myself upright, debris slipping off my shoulders. Smoke obscured the room, but I saw Lorenzo's silhouette near the exit. He was limping but moving fast, his two guards dragging him out.

"Axel?" My voice cracked.

"I'm good," he coughed from somewhere behind me. "Find Sofia!"

I scrambled through the chaos, kicking aside shards of glass and twisted metal. Sofia was crumpled against a steel support beam, blood running from a cut on her temple. Her eyes fluttered open as I reached her.

"Can you move?" I asked, gripping her shoulder.

"Yeah," she mumbled. "What... happened?"

"Lorenzo rigged the place," I said, pulling her to her feet. "We need to go."
