Chapter 345: I Can't Understand That Beauty Comes at a Price.

The Victoria's Secret Angels, whose beauty comes at a high cost, have not only become angels of Victoria's Secret but also the angels in the hearts of many people. Sexy and beautiful models are adored by everyone, but Duke always prioritizes his career over women.

From that brief conversation, Duke could sense that the newly joined Victoria's Secret model, Alessandra Ambrosio, was trying to please him. Perhaps she had ambitions in the film industry, or maybe she just sought excitement.

However, none of that was on Duke's mind. Before the grand show organized by Warner Brothers and Victoria's Secret, nothing was more important than thorough preparation.

Apart from a few isolated countries and regions, Duke wanted the whole world to pay as much attention as possible to the shooting of The Lord of the Rings trilogy!

In recent days, Duke and the Victoria's Secret Angels had frequently appeared in newspapers and media, and the promotional campaign had already begun.

On Wednesday, with special arrangements by Warner Brothers, Heidi Klum and Adriana Lima from Victoria's Secret entered a photography studio in New York. When they came out, they publicly announced that they were participating in the auditions for The Lord of the Rings trilogy!

On Thursday, both print and news media were buzzing about this story. When Duke visited Victoria's Secret's office building, he publicly stated that he believed Victoria's Secret Angels were the most suitable for playing female elves...

On Friday, The New York Times and NBC's The Today Show simultaneously reported that the Lord of the Rings studio had reached an agreement with the top brass at Victoria's Secret. The Angels and models closely associated with Victoria's Secret would play numerous elf roles in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. A photo was also released.

This photo caused a massive stir, attracting countless envious stares from men!

In the photo, Duke stood proudly, surrounded by a dozen long-legged, slim-waisted, beautiful and sexy models. Many media outlets directly quoted the photographer's setting name—Duke Rosenberg and His Elf Angels!

As the summer blockbuster season ended in North America, this sparked another wave of attention toward the movie!

On Friday afternoon, Time Warner and Victoria's Secret held a press conference at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, announcing their close cooperation on The Lord of the Rings trilogy...

"Tolkien's elves are ethereal, graceful, delicate, and captivating."

Sitting at the interview table, Duke displayed his usual confidence, "Angels are the perfect actors for female elves. I have no reason not to choose them. Not choosing the most elf-like Angels for The Lord of the Rings trilogy would be a crime..."

Heidi Klum also spoke on behalf of the Angel models. Having become a sensation in recent years, she was well-prepared for the press, thanks to prior public relations coaching.

"I'm so excited! All of us are incredibly thrilled," she said, her voice trembling with excitement. "The Lord of the Rings trilogy is an epic masterpiece, and we never imagined we'd get to be part of such a legendary work. Duke is a brilliant director. We've all dreamt of being in front of his camera."

"Director Rosenberg, can you share more about the film?"

"Ms. Klum, what roles will you play?"

"I heard that Mr. Trump will make a cameo. Is that true?"

Even though the journalists were excited, Duke and Heidi Klum made a timely exit, as the full revelations were never meant to come all at once.

Jamie Johnson then represented Warner and Victoria's Secret to announce that the Victoria's Secret Angels would depart on Sunday from the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. They would take a special Victoria's Secret & Lord of the Rings plane and fly with Duke to New Zealand!

After the press conference ended, Panny Kallis, the online media strategist for Duke, swiftly launched a campaign. Countless related messages and images spread across the major websites and forums in the U.S., like a plague.

Warner's newly established TMZ website, focused on gossip, even released exclusive stories about Duke and the Victoria's Secret Angels that couldn't be missed...

After several consecutive days of hard work, Duke's schedule had momentarily calmed down after the press conference, and he could finally rest for a day before the grand show on Sunday.

Back in his dressing room, just as he was about to catch up with Heidi Klum, Tina Fey came over to notify him that someone was waiting for him.

"She seems to be here just to see you."

After taking the elevator to the floor of his suite, Tina Fey walked beside Duke, reminding him, "I told her you were busy and suggested she come back another day, but she insisted on waiting for you."

Entering the living room of the suite, a slender, weak girl was standing with her back to them, seemingly engrossed in a painting on the wall.

She wore a simple gray T-shirt and denim shorts, and her brown curly hair was casually tied into a ponytail, topped off with an old New York Yankees baseball cap.

"Hey, Nat."

Duke walked up to her and greeted her first, "What brings you here today?"

"These days, the media's been all over your news, and I think your promotional tactics for the film are interesting." Natalie Portman looked away from the painting and turned to look at Duke. "I remember last time you said you'd buy me a drink when you were back in New York."

"I've been a bit busy lately..." Duke lightly tapped his forehead, "I almost forgot about that."

He gestured for Tina Fey to leave, and Tina promptly did. Duke walked over to the bar, casually rummaging through the cabinet. Not being very knowledgeable about wine, he just grabbed a bottle of Bordeaux red wine, along with two glasses, and set them on the counter.

"Please, have a seat, Nat."

Duke opened the wine and pointed to a high stool across from the bar. Natalie walked over, sat down, and waited while Duke set up the glasses. He poured some wine, and without saying much, she immediately raised her glass and drank nearly half.

Looking at the glass that Natalie had set down, Duke furrowed his brows. He had heard from Tina Fey about her behavior, and it seemed odd to him. They weren't exactly friends.

Though Natalie appeared calm, her actions suggested something was going on.

Duke poured more wine and raised his glass. He clinked it with hers, "Cheers!"

"Cheers!" Natalie drank half of her glass again.

"Nat?" Duke asked, seeing her thoughtful expression.

"Yes?" Natalie raised her face to meet his gaze.

Duke hesitated before asking, "Can you tell me what's going on?"

"Do you know, Duke?" Natalie slowly swirled her wine glass, her eyes lowered. "Since The Phantom Menace came out, everything has changed."

"That's normal," Duke responded with meaning, "You became the globally famous Queen Padmé Amidala."

"I'm Natalie Portman..." Natalie stressed again, "Not anyone else!"

Duke shrugged. He wasn't going to argue on this topic.

Natalie took off her Yankees cap, tossed it onto the counter, and adjusted her brown hair. "Fame comes at a price. I've been feeling it recently. Everyone treats me like Amidala, assuming I've become an unreachable big star. They distance themselves from me, even my close friends."

"That's not surprising." Duke raised his glass again, clinking it with hers, "At every stage of life, you lose and gain friends as you progress."

"Is that how it is for you?" Natalie took a sip of her wine and asked.

Duke shook his head, "I have few friends, but Zach Snyder, John Schwartzman, Leonardo DiCaprio, Irene Landay, and Sofia Coppola are friends who have the right to speak to me on equal terms."

Natalie's brown eyes flickered, as if she were contemplating his words. After a moment, she suddenly changed the subject, "I passed my Harvard interview. I'll be heading to Cambridge soon."

"Congratulations!" Duke raised his glass in celebration.

"Thanks." Natalie drank it all in one go.

As Duke poured more wine, Natalie continued, "The acceptance letter from Harvard has brought me some trouble. I don't know who to ask for advice."

"Your parents." Duke replied without hesitation.

But Natalie shook her head, "They can't help, because the trouble comes from my family, from my father."

As she mentioned this, Natalie's brow furrowed lightly. She took another sip of wine. "When you chose Hollywood, didn't Leah oppose it?"

"No," Duke's fingers gently traced the rim of his glass as he thought back on his mother's seemingly indifferent but supportive stance. A small smile crept onto his lips. "Mom just reminded me that it would be tough, but she supported me in every way, whether through encouragement or finances. Without her, I wouldn't be where I am today."

Duke wasn't slow to catch on. Seeing Natalie silent, he asked, "Does your father oppose your acting career?"

"He wants me to give up being an actress."

Rubbing her flushed face, Natalie drank the last of her wine. Her voice had a rebellious tone, filled with youthful frustration. "Why can't I chase my dreams like other girls? Why have I always had to eat vegetarian food? Why am I forced to be celibate? Why..."
