Chapter 445: Refreshing His Record

Gently breaking free from the embrace, Ivanka turned her head and looked at Duke, who was still sound asleep. She knew her boyfriend had used up too much energy dealing with reporters the night before, so she didn't want to disturb him. Instead, she lightly kissed his forehead, then tiptoed out of bed. After washing up in the bathroom and changing clothes, she went downstairs directly.

Since it was a bit early, the villa was very quiet. Ivanka walked to the computer by the floor-to-ceiling window, powered it up, and began to check the response to The Two Towers.

She didn't visit Duke's personal website, as it was a fan gathering place, and she knew it was sure to be filled with positive reviews.

Opening Google's homepage, Ivanka searched for The Two Towers and entered the IMDb website. The movie poster for The Two Towers immediately caught her eye, and without hesitation, she clicked on it.

What she saw first was the film's rating. The advance and midnight screenings had already ended, and there were many users who had rated the film, showing a total of 25,788 ratings, with an average score of 9.6!

"This is expected, isn't it?"

She muttered to herself with a slight smile, then looked down at the comments left by users. Some of them were from seasoned moviegoers.

""The Two Towers connects its storylines using classical montage techniques, with the last shot of the first part visually linking to the first shot of the second part."

"In terms of character development, the film has many highlights—Frodo's struggle with the temptation of the One Ring adds depth to his character. But the most impressive is Gollum, the new character."

"The action scenes aren't as numerous or intense as in the first film, but the final Battle of Helm's Deep still does not disappoint. Its scale is enough to make the movie ticket worthwhile. The wide-angle shots of the battlefield are magnificent, and the close combat details don't get overlooked. The grandeur of the wide shots will leave you breathless, forgetting that a lot of the visuals are computer-generated."

These were fair reviews. Ivanka continued scrolling down and saw that Duke's diehard fans were flooding the site with comments.

"A masterpiece in the fantasy genre!"

"The visuals are so grand that you'll want to watch it again."

"Though I'm not a fan of fantasy films, I have to admit, the Battle of Helm's Deep was incredibly exciting."

"This installment was perfectly connected. The battle scenes were just right, grand yet not exhausting, though the dramatic scenes were a bit lengthy, the story has been fully set up for the final chapter."

"Having seen the first one, how could I miss the second? How could I miss the third next year!"

"The darkness before dawn, the desperate defense of the city, the unique human complexity and courage—The Two Towers made me cry!"

"Director Duke Rosenberg is a true genius. In this film, he showcased his extraordinary talent, making the narrative of The Two Towers, which was difficult to handle, feel natural and smooth, leaving us eagerly anticipating the next chapter."

Footsteps could be heard from the stairs. Ivanka turned her head and saw Tina Fey coming down the stairs, holding a document. It was probably just received via fax.

"Good morning, Ivanka."

"Morning, Tina."

After exchanging greetings, Tina Fey placed the document on the coffee table. She glanced at Ivanka and asked, "Has Duke woken up yet?"

"Not yet, he's still sleeping." Ivanka nodded. "He was quite tired dealing with the reporters yesterday."

It wasn't just about yesterday's press conference. Ivanka knew that in the days leading up to the premiere, Duke had been running all over, promoting the film. His schedule had been so packed that, even though she had arrived in Los Angeles three days ago, they hadn't spent much time together.

If the premiere hadn't been in Los Angeles, Duke might not have been staying at the Duke Manor right now.

Ivanka understood Duke's dedication to his work. Only after the film's release last night did he finally relax a little.

The pressure of being a director was immense, which made her understand why Anna Prince didn't want to direct alone; this kind of pressure was indeed terrifying for female directors.

"Tina," Ivanka looked at the document and asked, "Is that the latest statistical data?"

"Yes, the Lord of the Rings studio faxed it over early this morning." Tina Fey walked over with the document. "I've been exhausted these days. I overslept last night and only saw it this morning."

After saying that, she walked up to Ivanka and handed her the document.

It wasn't a commercial secret. Ivanka quickly flipped through the document and sighed heavily.

"Not surprising at all."

Tina Fey pulled over a chair, sat down, shrugged, and said, "Isn't it good that there's no surprise?"

Ivanka lightly nodded when she heard footsteps again. Duke came down the stairs in sportswear, looking like he was getting ready to take a walk in the garden as usual.

"Hi, darling." Ivanka immediately stood up and walked over to him. "Why don't you sleep a bit longer?"

"I couldn't sleep," Duke rubbed his forehead while walking down the stairs. "My biological clock woke me up."

He continued walking toward the door, "I'm going for a run… I'll just walk around today."

"I'll go with you." Ivanka followed him, also bringing along the statistical data.

They walked through the stone path in front of the villa, entering the garden. Following the narrow path between the palm trees, they headed toward the beach. The rising sun had just reached the treetops, and the cool breeze hadn't yet heated up. It was a rare time perfect for outdoor activities.

"The Lord of the Rings studio faxed it over," Ivanka signaled the document to Duke but didn't hand it to him. "Want to hear it, darling?"

Duke pointed at his ears. "Looks like I'll be able to slack off with my eyes too."

Ivanka smiled and turned off the path to sit at the wooden table under the gazebo. She opened the document, and Duke walked over and sat across from her.

"In terms of theater releases, 27,662 people submitted feedback, with a 96% positive rating. CinemaScore gave it an A+."

At this point, Ivanka suddenly stopped and curiously asked, "What is CinemaScore?"

"CinemaScore is a market research company located in Las Vegas. It surveys audience ratings after they watch films. Its reports are used as a reference to predict box office revenue. The highest rating is A+, and the lowest is F."

Duke briefly explained before adding, "It's a fast-growing research company in recent years. The data they release is one of the important references for theater chains and distributors to adjust their strategies."

Ivanka nodded and continued reading the statistics for Duke. "Rotten Tomatoes included 48 professional reviews, with a freshness rating of 78%. Some big critics, like Roger Ebert and David Denby, gave it negative reviews."

She purposely blinked her eyes. "Darling, want to hear their reviews?"

"I don't have a habit of looking for torture," Duke waved his hand. "Tell me about other aspects."

"Alright then." Ivanka knew Duke didn't care about critics' opinions. "The film's popcorn audience approval index is 94%. MetaCritic gathered scores from 77 entertainment reporters, with an average score of 88."

Such high audience and market indices meant something, and Duke understood that very well.

Sure enough, Ivanka didn't make any more suspense and directly said, "In the 2,145 advance screenings yesterday, the average occupancy rate was 84%. The film earned $4.07 million, with single-screen earnings exceeding $1,800!"

Duke pinched his chin. After the big success of The Fellowship of the Ring, he and Warner were already expecting this. Though not all theaters were used for the advance screenings, the confidence in the film was evident. Nearly all screenings of The Two Towers were held in the largest theaters of their respective venues, which contributed to the impressive advance box office numbers.

"Congratulations, darling," Ivanka's voice interrupted Duke's thoughts. "The Two Towers broke your midnight screening box office record!"

"What?" Duke didn't catch it earlier.

Ivanka purposely put on a dissatisfied expression before saying, "The Two Towers earned $9.89 million in 3,876 midnight screenings, breaking the previous record of $9.47 million held by The Fellowship of the Ring!"

"This is good news!" Duke gently squeezed Ivanka's hand. "We should go back and have a drink to celebrate."

"Sorry, I'm on a diet." Ivanka gave an apologetic smile. "Alcohol is off-limits!"

"Ivanka, you don't have to do this."

Duke knew Ivanka had been sensitive to his past comments about her figure, which is why fitness, dieting, and weight loss never left her schedule.

Ivanka didn't listen to Duke's advice. "This is something I want to do."

She glanced at her watch and stood up, pulling Duke along. "It's about time, let's go back for breakfast. Your meals and rest need to be regular."

The two walked arm in arm back, but before they had gone too far, Tina Fey rushed over, clearly with urgent news.

"What happened, Tina?" Duke asked.

Tina Fey gasped for breath and quickly said, "Nancy, Panny, and the Lord of the Rings studio all called. A huge amount of negative reviews for The Two Towers just appeared online. Not only has IMDb been flooded, but it's spreading to other sites too, and even your personal website has been bombarded with bad reviews!"

Her words immediately caught Duke's attention. He quickened his pace back to the villa. The internet could create a movie, but it could also have a huge negative impact on one.

Ivanka followed behind and casually asked Tina Fey, "I just checked IMDb. There were only a few negative reviews."

"They just popped up while you two were out for a walk," Tina Fey replied. "A large number appeared in a short amount of time!"
