Joan never heard from Alex since that night. She called on two occasions and did not get an answer, so she gave up, but Violet had moved in with her, making Alex's absence less impactful.

With the two women going to work at the same time and arriving almost at the same time, life was good, and they felt like the men weren't needed in their lives anymore.
