[WP] Chapter 7: God and the Church

"Is it really that I am so unlucky?"

Shade was speculating about the encounter with Dr. Schneider just now. Fortunately, the rumbling sound of his stomach brought him back to reality. Now the commission is indeed the most important thing.

With less than twelve hours left before the crossing, Shade must learn to endure hunger. If he crossed into the forest, he might have a chance to hunt. If it was a chaotic era, he would also have a chance to get food.

It is such an orderly big city. If you want to fill your stomach, you must abide by the order. Shad stood at the door of the newspaper office and looked at the club where the "upper class" came in and out not far away, hoping that the feeling of hunger would pass. Fortunately, now he only needs to stand in the fog and wait. If he needs to chase, he has no way.

"I've never heard of a time traveler going to die out of hunger."

He wanted to blame himself for his incompetence, but there was nothing he could do about the current situation. He could only hope that the lady would show up soon so that he could submit a report to his employer.

Standing there thinking about something, someone handed over a flyer, and Shade took it. Looking up, he saw a smiling, round-faced missionary wearing a white robe for sacrifice, with the church's holy emblem on his left chest and a black pendant hanging on his chest, distributing papers to the people nearby.

Looking down, he found that what was stuffed into his hand was church propaganda material belonging to the [Church of War and Peace]. When Shade was looking for items in the house, he learned about the faith situation in this world and knew that this was one of the Orthodox churches.

In the past of this world, there were quite a lot of stories about gods, but in the present era, only five gods are officially recognized by the government and the people. Therefore, the mainstream beliefs of the world are these five gods—

Father of Peace, also known as the God of War and Peace, has a white dove as his holy emblem, with light gray wings.

Mr. Dawn, also known as the God of Light and Shadow, has a brass-colored upper-notch ring as his holy emblem.

Old Man with Lantern, also known as the God of the Sun and Earth, has a golden sun pattern as his holy emblem.

Lady Creator, also known as the Godess of Creation and Destruction, has a silver-white wrench as her holy emblem.

The Lord of All Things, also known as the God of Nature and Evil, has two overlapping leaves, one yellow and one green. The old man who transported the corpse not long ago was a member of the Church of Nature.

"Hmm? Why are the priesthoods preached by the gods all relative concepts?"

Thinking of this, Shade suddenly had more ideas about this world. But that kind of inexplicable feeling, but he can't express it better to himself. It seems that he has touched some kind of power in the vagueness, and a whisper sounded in his ear:

[You feel the 'miracle'. ]

This time it is the "miracle" of one of the four elements. So far, Shade has touched all of them except [blasphemy]. According to the information mentioned by the voice in his mind, it seems that only by touching the complete four elements can he have the qualification to touch the mysterious door to the extraordinary.

"It seems to be simpler than I thought. It only took me half a day to touch three-quarters."

Then the woman's laughter sounded in his head again, which was beautiful.

The five Orthodox churches are not hostile to each other, and their relationship is at least much better than the relationship between the human kingdom.

The church is different in strength in different regions, and in northern Pearl Tobesk City, the churches of the five churches all exist, and there is a relatively "friendly" competition between them.

Shade thought about these things looked at the printed matter in his hand and sighed that the printing press did not need to be "invented" by himself. Although the printing quality is not very high, at least.

He suddenly found important information with his eyes wide open. Most of the flyers introduced the teachings of the righteous god [Peace Father] and welcomed believers and pagans to go to the church to listen to the weekly scheduled lectures and sermons.

The important thing is that at the bottom of the paper it was written that if you hold this flyer and line up at the church door at 5:30 pm on weekends, you can get free relief food. It was also written in a line of small words that no matter how long the line is, as long as you show up before 6 o'clock, you will get a number plate and you will get food.

Even if it is embarrassing to get this kind of relief food, at least it lets Shade know that he will not starve to death today. He touched his nose, wrote down the church address of [War and Peace Church], and then folded the flyer with a strong smell of ink very solemnly and clipped it in Mr. Hamilton's notebook.

He thanked the god in a low voice in his heart. Although the feeling of hunger still did not subside, at least he felt much better.

"My luck isn't that bad."

Shade thought to himself, knowing that once the investigated Lady Lasoya entered the club, she would not come out for an hour or two, so he wondered if he could talk to the missionary.

Faith in God is universal in this world, and atheists are a minority among the minority. Of course, as long as you don't publicly shout that you don't trust God, it's okay, but Shade intends to learn about these so-called true gods. In a world where faith exists, it's even more dangerous to know nothing about these things.

He was still thinking about how to talk to the other party, but the missionary had already walked away. He felt very sorry, but he didn't chase him but continued to stand there and wait. After all, when he stood firm, he had plenty of time to understand all this.

Quite a few people were standing at the door of the newspaper like him; most of them were reporters waiting for new news, and a few were idle people working for the newspaper. Today is Saturday, and even though the weather is foggy, Valente Pedestrian Street, as the main road, is very busy, so it's not abrupt to have so many people standing here.

Although it is called a "pedestrian street,"  carriages are not prohibited from passing through. While observing the club, Shade looked at the pedestrians and carriages passing by. He thought this would help him integrate better here.

There was a burnt smell in the air, which was of course smog. But the smell was not very strong, just the fog in the air, which became thicker and thicker as the sun moved from overhead to the west.

Shade was worried about his physical condition. While thinking about it, he saw another carriage parked at the door of the club. He immediately looked up and saw that it was Mr. Lawrence, the husband of the client.

"Interesting, an unexpected gain."

He whispered, noted the current time, and wrote the information in a notebook.

The client, Mrs. Lawrence, was generous. If her husband and his lover were caught having a tryst in the club on the day of submitting the report, she might be able to give him an extra reward.

"But it is also possible that the angry woman implicated me."

Shade thought wildly in his heart, hoping to see the scene of Mrs. Lasoya welcoming Mr. Lawrence at the door of the club, but unfortunately, Mr. Lawrence walked into the club by himself.

Even though there was a street between them, Shade could see the smile and excitement on Mr. Lawrence's face. He did not come to the club to play cards or drink tea.

"Good luck."

He said it in his heart, shaking his head and recording Mr. Lawrence's outfit today in detail to prove the authenticity of his report.
