[WP] Chapter 19: Female Writer and Tuition

[You have come into contact with the 'Whisper'.]

Just a glance at the exquisite snuff bottle deeply attracted Shade.

Shade had seen more exquisite things in his world, but at this moment he felt that he must possess this one. Fortunately, the woman's voice brought his thoughts back to normal, and Dr. Schneider just smiled at Shade's loss of composure:

"Even a poet-level [relic] will have an impact on ordinary people, so the church and the academy will try their best to contain and control the [relic]. But you recovered quickly. After I open it, you will fall into a dream. The dream will last for 7 minutes and 23 seconds. You will understand the past and present of the academy in the dream, which will help you believe what I said."

"Such an accurate time?"

Shade asked, and then, under the doctor's guidance, he leaned slightly on the back of the sofa and made a posture conducive to taking a nap.

"Almost every ring wizard who joins Saint Byron's correspondence course must use this [relic] to confirm the information they get. It has been used countless times and has never made a mistake."

The doctor smiled.

This "never" sentence pattern made Shade a little worried. But he did not say what he felt in his heart and signaled the doctor to start.

"Okay, please get ready."

The doctor stood up and covered his mouth and nose with a wet towel to prevent himself from falling asleep, and at the same time made a retreating posture.

"Begin."

The lid of the pot was opened, colorful smoke rushed out, and Shade immediately lost consciousness.

Shade had a dream. In the dream, his soul left his body and rose to the distant sky, looking at the prosperous steam city in the gray fog and watching the steam factory spewing thick smoke in the distance.

Then he flew north, over the city, over the mountains, over the grassland, and the forest. Finally, he saw the snow-capped peaks, and behind the highest peak, he saw the great ice cap in the far north.

Maybe just a moment, maybe a few hours or even a few days, the sky in the far north dimmed. That night, under the colorful aurora, behind the shining glacier mountains, a huge building complex appeared.

This was a strange dream that he had never had before. After waking up, Shade only remembered that he walked into the huge academy, strolled into the ancient castle, and looked up at the stars at the top of the spire. He shuttled through the stepped classrooms with seats, searched for herbal formulas in the basement, and checked the list of [relics] in the library.

Mysterious, ancient, profound, and secretive—that was St. Byron's Comprehensive College, but it was also a gathering place for mysterious people. Behind the glaciers in the far north, it has stood from the distant past to the present.

When he opened his eyes, his vision was still a little blurry. The doctor's appearance became clear on the opposite sofa. He was busy covering the lid of the snuff bottle and putting this poet-level [relic] back into the box.

"How about it, now you know that the academy exists?"

After putting away the snuff bottle, the doctor smiled and asked Shade. Shade sighed a little melancholy and missed that strange dream.

"It is true. What the doctor said is true."

Even though it was just a dream, this special dream was enough for Shade to make the right judgment.

"The only side effect of this poet-level [relic] is that it is slightly addictive."

Dr. Schneider's voice was very soft, with a strange power in it, as if he wanted to pull Shade back from the dream world completely.

"Forget that dream, Shade Hamilton. But sooner or later, you will join us as a ring wizard, riding a steam locomotive to the city in the far north, hiking through the ice cap under the aurora, snuggling together in the blizzard to spend the long night, helping to climb the highest glacier, and then entering there, St. Byron's Comprehensive College, the ring wizards. My dream is to get a lifelong teaching position at St. Byrons after being promoted to the tenth ring in the college. Shade, if you like it there, then join it."

That dream, which was both real and illusory, took Shade some time to recover. When the doctor formally asked for his opinion again, this time, Shade nodded without any hesitation:

"Yes, I hope to join the academy and become a correspondence ring wizard."

Dr. Schneider showed a smile from the heart:

"Then congratulations, Shade. Please allow me to call you that. You are about to become the fifth ring wizard in our group. Please wait. Miss Dorothy Louisa was here just now. She will host the entrance ceremony for you with me. I can introduce you to each other and let her know that I am not always so unlucky. The entrance ceremony requires at least two people in the group to be present to prevent new ring wizards from being deceived."

Even if the doctor had been very enthusiastic since he visited No. 6 Saint Teresa's Square this morning, his enthusiasm continued to grow:

"Oh, Louisa is a fourth-year correspondence four-ring wizard, and her main job is as a novelist. I know you have just "awakened" from your blindness and stupidity, and you probably haven't read her works, but she is quite famous. The two short stories "Snail Dream" and "Midsummer Night's Wish" won the kingdom's literary award three years ago and even got a summons from His Majesty the King along with 35 other winners."

"You don't have to mention the total number of winners that year."

The door was pushed open, and the blonde lady he had just seen stood outside. She was still dressed the same way, but she looked a little angry.

"Doctor, is it necessary to tell all the unimportant information every time you introduce your friends to others?"

It seems that the atmosphere in the four-person correspondence ring wizard group where the doctor is is very good. At least everyone is a friend, and Shade is very happy about this. But Shade also guessed that maybe the blonde writer had been listening to the conversation outside the door.

"It's impossible that everyone is completely unguarded."

He thought silently and prepared to stand up and say hello.

The doctor avoided answering the blonde's question and smiled and motioned for Miss Louisa to sit down.

"Detective Hamilton has accepted my invitation. Now our team finally has five-ring wizards."

"Doctor, did you not use the strange relic that overdrafted your luck?"

She doubted it, but still walked in and stretched out her hand to Shade.

"Dorothy Louisa, novelist, also a part-time reporter."

Miss Louisa looked very capable, so Shade also stood up and shook her hand lightly.

"Shade Hamilton, a detective, right?"

"This profession is quite good."

As they talked, the two sat down again. The doctor coughed and indicated that he was going to talk about something:

"Shade, please allow me to call you this. The last thing before the formal enrollment, I need to talk to you about the tuition fee."

Shade was stunned, and the sad reality once again dispelled the joy in his heart. He blinked:

"Yes. Tuition fee."

He realized that when the doctor introduced the church and the college, he did not mention the important shortcomings of the college. After all, the Orthodox Church would not charge money for recruiting members.

"The college charges according to grade. Wait a minute."

Dr. Schneider took out a document from the bookshelf behind the desk. The blonde lady did not speak but looked at the two with interest.

"This is the charging standard. Because we are a correspondence course and will not communicate directly with the college, the college has made these documents to prevent the group leader from charging randomly. I heard that this kind of thing was very common hundreds of years ago."
